refactor(wallet): move off the SDK's KeyWallet module - #1299
rust-dashcore is removing its key-wallet-ffi crate in dashpay/rust-dashcore#776, and Platform's Swift SDK drops the KeyWallet classes built on it. The wallet still uses them in a few places, mostly by building a throwaway KeyWallet wallet from the recovery phrase to get wallet ids, addresses, keys and the account xpub.
This PR moves those places to the API the Swift SDK gains in dashpay/platform#5727. The app no longer reads the phrase to derive anything itself, builds no derivation path and decides no index: Rust answers each question, and reads the phrase through the existing mnemonic resolver only when it needs a private key.
Important
Temporary platform pin..platform-ref points at 05317eb08, the head of dashpay/platform#5727, only until that PR is merged. Then the pin moves to its merge commit and this PR leaves draft. Please do not merge it before that.
The pinned commit is v5.1-dev plus the helpers. It contains the previous pin 57b5e5fa3, and its protocol 13 and 14 (v13.rs, v14.rs) are identical to it.
What was done?
Wallet ids: the host, the key migrator, the wallet creator, the wiper's network resolver and the remove-wallet check derive ids with Mnemonic.walletId(for:network:) instead of Wallet(mnemonic:network:).id. The migrator and creator no longer run their seed sanity check before creating the wallet. It compared two runs of a pure function, so it could never fail, and createOrImportWallet derives the id itself, failing through the same retry path.
Phrase repair: a candidate's first receive address comes from Mnemonic.firstReceiveAddress(for:network:) instead of Mnemonic.toSeed plus key_wallet_derive_address_from_seed.
CrowdNode signing and ownership: both ask the running wallet, which runs a bounded scan in Rust: BIP44 account 0, external chain then internal, indexes 0 to 299, first match wins. sign takes the key from bip44AddressPrivateKey(address:), which Rust only returns when it controls the address, so the signer fails closed. ownership(of:) takes the path from findBIP44AddressPath(address:), which uses public keys only, so the check never reads the phrase. A lookup that throws reads as .walletUnavailable, never as a miss.
Extended public keys screen: renders the persisted BIP44 account 0 xpub bytes. The running wallet is rebuilt from those bytes, so its BIP44 account 0 exists only when they do. Without them the sheet shows "Not available", where develop derived the xpub from the phrase through the throwaway wallet.
Masternode owner and voting keys: read the running wallet's provider address pool, and providerKeyAtIndex derives the keys. A wallet without a provider account yet shows an empty pool, where develop derived 5 addresses from the phrase. hasProviderPool is false then, and the voting screen says some masternodes may be missing because the wallet has no voting key account.
SwiftDashSDKHost.derivationWallet() is deleted, so none of these features reads the phrase any more.
Tests:CrowdNodeOwnershipTests covers the lookup rule (a throwing lookup is .walletUnavailable, a foreign address never reaches the wallet) and that only a P2PKH address of the running network is looked up. Rust tests in #5727 cover the search itself. KeyToolsTests covers the xpub row selection. The CloudKit-free in-memory test container moves to shared test support.
How Has This Been Tested?
Full DashWalletTests on an iOS 26.3 simulator against the pinned platform commit, built locally with build_ios.sh --target sim: 1548 passed, 0 failed, 1 skipped. The skipped test is PastedAmountNormalizationTests.testRegionalParserNormalizationMatrix, whose strict de_CH expectation differs with the local Xcode 27.2 ICU. It fails the same way on develop locally, and CI runs Xcode 26.6.
Breaking Changes
None for users of a loaded wallet. Behaviour differences:
Phrase repair: on develop, the seed derivation behind the on-chain check was English-only, so non-English candidate phrases skipped the Insight confirmation. Mnemonic.firstReceiveAddress accepts every BIP-39 language, so those candidates are now confirmed on-chain like English ones.
The xpub sheet and the masternode key screens no longer derive from the phrase when the running wallet lacks the account. They show "Not available" or an empty pool instead.

Walkthrough
The pull request updates mnemonic-based wallet operations, CrowdNode key lookup, masternode provider-pool handling, and account-type classification. It also adds and revises tests, changes the masternode warning text across localizations, and updates the platform reference.
Changes: Mnemonic and wallet-key access
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Mnemonic derivation and wallet lifecycle DashWallet/Sources/Infrastructure/SwiftDashSDK/*, DashWallet/Sources/UI/Menu/Security/Wallets/WalletsViewModel.swift, DashWalletTests/HostRecoveryTests.swift, DashWalletTests/PhraseRepairEngineTests.swift
Wallet creation, migration, phrase repair, and wallet ID lookup use SDK mnemonic APIs without the former seed-length checks. The phrase-repair and error-classification tests reflect these changes.
The extended public key model reads account key bytes from persisted data. Tests cover matching account records and use a shared in-memory model container helper.

Layer / File(s)
Summary
SDK wallet address lookup and ownership tests DashWallet/Sources/UI/CrowdNode/CrowdNodeModel.swift, DashWallet/Sources/Models/CrowdNode/CrowdNode.swift, DashWalletTests/CrowdNodeOwnershipTests.swift
Signing uses the SDK wallet’s BIP44 key lookup. Ownership checks use network-specific P2PKH validation and wallet path lookup, with tests for unavailable lookups, missing paths, and foreign addresses.

Provider address pool and voting completeness DashWallet/Sources/UI/Menu/Tools/Masternode Keys/DerivationPathKeys/Models/DerivationPathKeysModel.swift, DashWallet/Sources/UI/Menu/Tools/Masternode Keys/Overview/Model/WalletKeysOverviewModel.swift, DashWallet/Sources/Infrastructure/SwiftDashSDK/Voting/MasternodeVoterRegistry.swift
Provider addresses come from the running wallet’s address pool. Voting completeness checks and overview results use whether that pool exists.
Missing-masternode warning text DashWallet/Sources/UI/DashPay/Voting/UsernameVotingScreen.swift, DashWallet/* .lproj/Localizable.strings
The warning now attributes possible missing masternodes to the absence of a masternode voting key account. Localization entries use the revised message.
Account-type classification

Summary
Shared standard account type DashWallet/Sources/UI/Home/Views/HomeViewModel.swift
The Home view model uses PersistentAccount.standardAccountType for transaction classification and wallet rollup.
The PR is mergeable with a small warning-text correction: users may be told their voting account is missing when its addresses are merely unavailable.

Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Static verification at head 31f0a31 found no blocking defects and confirmed three non-blocking suggestions; the wallet-ID compatibility concern is already covered by tests in the pinned SDK. Simulator CI remains pending, while target-membership, recovery, and accessibility checks pass. The dependency publication gate remains unsatisfied: platform PR #5725 is currently closed without merging, and the temporary pin still needs an upstream replacement before this draft is merged.
These findings are from an automated code review. Verify each finding against the current code and only fix it if needed.
In `DashWallet/Sources/UI/CrowdNode/CrowdNodeModel.swift`:
- [SUGGESTION] DashWallet/Sources/UI/CrowdNode/CrowdNodeModel.swift:531-539: Read the ownership mnemonic only after the live pools miss
`liveOwnership()` reads the plaintext mnemonic before constructing the lookup, so even an address already tracked by the running wallet requires a successful Keychain read. If that read fails, ownership returns `.walletUnavailable` without consulting the pool that could prove ownership. Resolve the mnemonic inside the throwing `derivationPath` closure instead, retaining `.walletUnavailable` when the fallback cannot read it and preserving the bound-wallet/network guards. Add coverage at the lookup-construction seam proving that a tracked-address hit never invokes the mnemonic reader; the existing tracked-address test supplies an already-constructed lookup and therefore misses this dependency.
- [SUGGESTION] DashWallet/Sources/UI/CrowdNode/CrowdNodeModel.swift:390-392: Share the BIP44 account discriminants across app consumers
This adds another independent declaration of the Standard/BIP44 discriminator pair already defined in `SwiftDashSDKTransactionSender`; `ExtendedPublicKeysModel` adds the same pair again in this PR. All values are correct, and the SDK explicitly treats the account-type tags as stable persisted ABI, so this is not a current decoding defect. Put the metadata mapping in one shared internal definition or typed SDK accessor and reuse it across these consumers rather than making each feature maintain its own interpretation of the same FFI account identity.
In `DashWallet/Sources/UI/Menu/Tools/Masternode Keys/DerivationPathKeys/Models/DerivationPathKeysModel.swift`:
- [SUGGESTION] DashWallet/Sources/UI/Menu/Tools/Masternode Keys/DerivationPathKeys/Models/DerivationPathKeysModel.swift:325-327: Keep initial provider-pool sizing authoritative in Rust
The fallback now reconstructs key-wallet's initial provider-pool policy by deriving exactly five indexes. Previously it enumerated the pool created by Rust; the pinned rust-dashcore implementation selects `DEFAULT_SPECIAL_GAP_LIMIT` in `ManagedAccountType::from_account_type` for both owner and voting accounts. Five is correct today, but changing that SDK policy would no longer update this fallback automatically. Expose the initial indexed provider addresses, or their authoritative depth, through platform-wallet and SwiftDashSDK so the app selects live versus fallback data without duplicating Rust's pool-initialization rule. This is non-blocking because the current count and derived addresses match.
Point `.platform-ref` at the head of dashpay/platform#5727, `v5.1-dev` plus the `Mnemonic` and `ManagedPlatformWallet` helpers this branch uses. It contains the previous pin `57b5e5fa3`, and its protocol 13 and 14 (`v13.rs`, `v14.rs`) are identical to it.
This is a temporary integration pin. Move it to the merge commit of #5727 once that PR is merged.
`PlatformBalanceReaderTests` kept its in-memory SwiftData container builder private. It moves to `DashModelContainer.inMemoryWithoutCloudKit()` in shared test support, so the key tools tests can reuse it instead of copying it.
The platform SDK is dropping the key-wallet FFI, so `Wallet(mnemonic:network:)`, `Mnemonic.toSeed` and `key_wallet_derive_address_from_seed` go away. Wallet ids now come from `Mnemonic.walletId(for:network:)` in the host, the wiper's network resolver and the remove-wallet check.
The migrator and creator no longer run their seed sanity check before creating the wallet. It compared two runs of a pure function, so it could never fail, and `createOrImportWallet` derives the id itself, failing through the same retry path.
`SwiftDashSDKStoredWalletNetworkResolver.walletIds(for:)` maps a failed id derivation to `SwiftDashSDKWalletDeletionError.invalidMnemonic`, which `keysFailure` already classifies. `PlatformWalletError` stays a store failure because store calls throw it too.
The phrase repairer takes a candidate's first receive address from `Mnemonic.firstReceiveAddress(for:network:)`, which accepts every SDK language, and the test pins the address of the all-`abandon` phrase.
The signer and the ownership check built a throwaway key-wallet from the mnemonic with `SwiftDashSDKHost.derivationWallet()` and scanned BIP44 account 0 in Swift, and that FFI surface is going away.
Both now ask the running wallet, which runs the same scan in Rust: BIP44 account 0, external chain then internal, indexes 0 to 299, first match wins. `sign` takes the key from `bip44AddressPrivateKey(address:)`, which Rust only returns when the key controls the address, so the signer fails closed. `ownership(of:)` takes the path from `findBIP44AddressPath(address:)`, which uses public keys only, so the check never reads the phrase. A lookup that throws reads as `.walletUnavailable`, not as a miss.
Nothing needs the address's hash160 any more, so `hash160(ofAddress:network:)` becomes `isP2PKH(_:network:)` and `OwnershipLookup` takes an `isP2PKH` closure. A P2SH address still reads `.foreign`. Rust tests cover the search and the key check.
`ExtendedPublicKeysModel` rendered the xpub of a throwaway KeyWallet wallet built from the phrase. It now renders the persisted BIP44 account 0 `accountExtendedPubKeyBytes` with `PlatformWalletManager.accountExtendedPubKeyString(bytes:)`. The running wallet is rebuilt from the persisted account bytes, so its BIP44 account 0 exists only when they do. Without them the sheet shows "Not available", and the phrase is never read.
`SwiftDashSDKWalletSource` kept the Standard `accountType` as a private constant, so it moves to an internal `PersistentAccount.standardAccountType` that both read.
`loadBIP44AccountXpub` takes the model context and wallet id, so the new `KeyToolsTests` run it on an in-memory store. They pin that it ignores rows differing in account index, BIP32 tag, account type or wallet, answers nil without the row or its bytes, and renders the BIP44 account 0 row.

Distinguish unavailable voting addresses from an absent account.
An existing voting account can produce an empty address snapshot when the pool is empty or unavailable. That state can set nodeListMayBeIncomplete, but this banner says that the wallet has no voting-key account. Update the string to cover unavailable addresses without asserting that the account is absent.

Looks good to me. One non-blocking localization issue: the updated masternode voting-key warning replaces existing translations with English text in 42 locales, including Polish (DashWallet/pl.lproj/Localizable.strings:4673). Please translate the new wording before release so users continue to see this warning in their selected language.
The masternode owner and voting key screens read the running wallet's provider address pool, and `providerKeyAtIndex` derives the keys. The pool a throwaway KeyWallet wallet derived from the phrase is gone.
An empty pool means the running wallet could not read a provider account of that kind, for example because it has none, and `providerKeyAtIndex` throws for it. `poolIsLive` becomes a computed `hasProviderPool`.
`SwiftDashSDKHost.derivationWallet()`, the throwaway key-wallet these screens and CrowdNode used, has no callers left and is deleted.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Static verification of the complete diff at c1792c1 found no blocking defects and two non-blocking suggestions: main-actor contention in the new live-wallet calls and voting guidance left inconsistent with the removed fallback. Two prior findings are fixed; the remaining discriminator consolidation is reasonably tracked in #1304. Current-head simulator tests remain pending; test-target membership, recovery, accessibility, and PR-title checks passed, and no builds or tests were run locally.

🟡 Suggestion: Voting incomplete-list copy no longer matches the missing-account rule DashWallet/Sources/UI/DashPay/Voting/UsernameVotingScreen.swift:53-58
The refactor changes mayBeIncomplete from a shallow fallback-pool warning to a missing provider-pool warning, including wallets without a voting-key account. This banner still tells users to finish syncing and reopen the screen, which is not sufficient when the required account is absent. VotingViewModel.nodeListMayBeIncomplete also still documents the deleted shallow fallback. Update the localized banner and that comment to describe unavailable voting-key addresses or a missing voting-key account, without promising that finishing sync will resolve every case. Although the banner itself is unchanged, its inconsistency is introduced by this PR's changed warning semantics.
Triage: critical by gpt-6.1-sol (effort low) — This cross-cutting refactor materially changes key handling across wallet identity, recovery, and provider keys, including CrowdNodeMessageSigner.sign in CrowdNodeModel.swift replacing local address-to-key derivation with the running wallet's private-key lookup.
These findings are from an automated code review. Verify each finding against the current code and only fix it if needed.

- [SUGGESTION] DashWallet/Sources/UI/CrowdNode/CrowdNodeModel.swift:491-493: Run the live-wallet lookup and key reveal off the main actor
These synchronous replacements introduce a shared-wallet lock wait on the UI thread. `CrowdNodeMessageSigner` is `@MainActor`, and `validatePrefs()` explicitly routes ownership checks to the main thread. At platform pin `1721ca7a8bc9`, both `findBIP44AddressPath` and `bip44AddressPrivateKey` enter `scan_bip44_account`, which uses `blocking_read()` on the wallet manager shared with SPV. In the pinned rust-dashcore implementation, `BlocksManager.apply_block` holds that manager's write guard across `process_block_for_wallets(...).await`. An ownership check or signature request can therefore block the main run loop until block processing releases the guard; the bounded address search does not bound this wait. The previous throwaway wallet did not share SPV's lock. Expose asynchronous app-facing operations and run the synchronous bindings on a background queue, retaining the selected wallet and rejecting stale results after a wallet switch. Add coverage showing that a pending lookup does not prevent main-actor work from progressing.
