Moved from #5725, which came from a fork, so CI skipped the Rust, Swift and Kotlin jobs.

Issue being fixed or feature implemented

rust-dashcore is removing its key-wallet-ffi crate in dashpay/rust-dashcore#776. Platform's SDKs and dashwallet-ios still reach into it for a handful of stateless wallet helpers: generating and validating recovery phrases, validating addresses, building identity key paths and decoding raw transactions. dashwallet-ios also builds a throwaway KeyWallet wallet from the phrase to get wallet ids, addresses, keys and the account xpub.

This PR is the first of the steps that take Platform off key-wallet-ffi. It only adds: those helpers now live in rs-platform-wallet with thin entry points in rs-platform-wallet-ffi, and the Swift and Kotlin wrappers call them there. key-wallet-ffi and the Swift KeyWallet module stay in place, so dashwallet-ios (#1299) can move to the new API before #5728 deletes them.

Following the "FFI and mobile SDKs hold no business logic" rule, every decision lives in rs-platform-wallet: the FFI only converts and marshals, and no host builds a derivation path, picks an index or reads the phrase to finish an operation.

What was done?

  • rs-platform-wallet:
    • decode_transaction, ported from key-wallet-ffi's transaction decoder.
    • wallet_id_for_mnemonic and first_receive_address_for_mnemonic, for flows that run before any wallet exists: importing, migrating or repairing a phrase.
    • parse_mnemonic_any_language in the new wallet::mnemonic module replaces the three copies the manager and platform-wallet-ffi each kept, so phrase validation and wallet creation share one parse.
    • seed_for_mnemonic and master_key_for_mnemonic turn a phrase into its seed and master key. The FFI's mnemonic resolver helpers use them, so every resolver caller gets its seed and master key from platform-wallet.
    • PlatformWallet::find_bip44_address_path and bip44_address_private_key: the scan dashwallet-ios ran on KeyWallet to find its CrowdNode account address, one to one. BIP-44 account 0 only, external chain before internal, indexes 0 to 299, first match wins, without consulting the account pools. It derives public keys from the account xpub, so it needs no private key, and a removed wallet is reported as WalletNotFound. derive_core_address_private_key still reveals keys of tracked addresses only. It now returns WalletNotFound instead of panicking when the wallet is removed while the caller resolves the mnemonic.
    • Both key reveals check that the derived key controls the requested address, so a master resolved from another wallet's phrase is refused instead of exported.
    • Both key reveals choose the key source themselves. They take a master_key callback, call it only for a wallet without resident private keys, after the address is found and with the wallet-manager lock released, and wipe the master key afterwards. A callback failure comes back unchanged as CoreAddressKeyError::KeySource, which implements std::error::Error when the callback's error does.
    • test_platform_wallet_manager runs its mock SDK on testnet, matching the testnet wallet it creates, and test_support shares the test phrases and a P2PKH spend transaction with the FFI tests.
  • rs-platform-wallet-ffi:
    • Ports of the key-wallet-ffi helpers: platform_wallet_transaction_decode, platform_wallet_mnemonic_generate, platform_wallet_mnemonic_validate, platform_wallet_address_validate and platform_wallet_identity_authentication_path. key-wallet alone decides which word counts generate accepts. The identity path is built by platform-wallet's checked identity_auth_derivation_path_for_type, so an index of 2^31 or more is refused instead of producing a path that cannot exist.
    • platform_wallet_mnemonic_generate and platform_wallet_mnemonic_word_list take the language as a plain integer and refuse an unknown value with ErrorInvalidParameter, so a bad value from C is an error instead of undefined behaviour. FFIMnemonicLanguage stays in the header as the list of valid values.
    • Thin entry points over the new functions: platform_wallet_wallet_id_from_mnemonic, platform_wallet_first_receive_address_from_mnemonic, platform_wallet_find_bip44_address_path and platform_wallet_bip44_address_private_key. It and platform_wallet_address_private_key share reveal_address_private_key, which only turns the mnemonic resolver handle into that callback and marshals the result.
  • Swift: Mnemonic.generate, Mnemonic.validate, Address.validate, KeyDerivation.getIdentityAuthenticationPath and TransactionDecoder.decode call the platform-wallet functions. New Mnemonic.walletId(for:network:), Mnemonic.firstReceiveAddress(for:network:), and ManagedPlatformWallet.findBIP44AddressPath(address:) and bip44AddressPrivateKey(address:storage:) for the scan. Every helper that passes a string to C rejects an embedded NUL, which would otherwise truncate it.
  • Kotlin/JNI: MnemonicNative and TxDecodeNative call the platform-wallet functions through rs-unified-sdk-jni, which no longer depends on key-wallet-ffi. The JNI bridge passes the language ordinal through, so an unknown one is an error instead of English, and Kotlin's Language gains Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

Two defects in rust-dashcore that the derivation helpers would have exposed are tracked upstream: dashpay/rust-dashcore#1297 (unchecked child indexes in the dip9 path builders) and dashpay/rust-dashcore#1298 (BIP-32 depth overflow). No new entry point takes a caller-supplied path, and the one that takes indexes, the identity path, checks them.

Follow-ups that span the whole FFI crate, not just these entry points:

  • #5740: move the choice between resident keys and the host's mnemonic resolver into platform-wallet for the five other FFI files that make it. The address key reveals already do.
  • #5741: take every C enum parameter, FFINetwork first, as an integer and check it, as the mnemonic language now is.
  • #5742: map WalletNotFound and AddressNotFound to NotFound instead of ErrorUnknown.

How Has This Been Tested?

  • cargo fmt --all --check, cargo machete, and cargo clippy --workspace --all-features --all-targets -- -D warnings.
  • cargo test -p platform-wallet -p platform-wallet-ffi -p rs-sdk-ffi -p rs-unified-sdk-jni -p rs-unified-sdk-ffi --lib. New tests:
    • wallet_id_for_mnemonic equals the id of a wallet created from the same English or French phrase on mainnet, testnet and devnet.
    • first_receive_address_for_mnemonic matches pinned addresses for English and French phrases.
    • The scan finds BIP-44 account 0 addresses on both chains up to index 299, with keys checked against the master key, and finds nothing at index 300, on BIP-44 account 1, on a BIP-32 or provider account, or for another wallet's address. Key reveal still refuses an address past the pool, as before.
    • A wallet removed while a caller still holds it is reported as missing by the scan, its key reveal and the existing key reveal, natively and through the FFI.
    • A master of another wallet is refused by both key reveals, and the identity path refuses 1 << 31 for either index.
    • The key source is asked once for a found address and never for an address the wallet does not hold, and its failure reaches the caller unchanged. A wallet removed while the key source runs is reported as missing by both reveals.
    • Each FFI entry point passes the native answer through and refuses null pointers and bad phrases.
  • Swift: build_ios.sh --target mac and --target sim, then swift test --filter SwiftDashSDKTests (893 tests, 0 failures). Swift tests pin Mnemonic.walletId and Mnemonic.firstReceiveAddress against the KeyWallet code they replace, for English and French phrases.
  • Kotlin: ./gradlew :sdk:testDebugUnitTest.
  • Each commit builds and passes clippy on its own.

Breaking Changes

The header grows, and one existing C signature changes: platform_wallet_mnemonic_word_list, shipped since v4.0.0, takes its language as uint32_t instead of FFIMnemonicLanguage, so Swift code passing the C enum stops compiling. Callers of these wrappers see different errors:

  • Swift: Mnemonic.generate, KeyDerivation.getIdentityAuthenticationPath and TransactionDecoder.decode throw PlatformWalletError instead of KeyWalletError. TransactionDecoder.decode(Data()) reports a null-pointer error, as the old key-wallet call did.
  • Kotlin: decode and generate failures carry the platform-wallet error code plus PWFFI_CODE_OFFSET (DashSdkError.PlatformWallet) instead of key-wallet-ffi's code 1.
  • Mnemonic.validate, Mnemonic.walletId, Mnemonic.firstReceiveAddress and Address.validate refuse strings with an embedded NUL. Before, the C side silently used the prefix.

Nothing in this repository matches on the old error types.

In Rust, PlatformWallet::derive_core_address_private_key takes a master_key: impl FnOnce() -> Result<ExtendedPrivKey, E> callback instead of Option<&ExtendedPrivKey> and returns CoreAddressKeyError<E>. Its only caller is platform-wallet-ffi.

Possibly related issues

  • dashpay/platform#5739: The issue describes incorrect error mapping for malformed or wrong-network addresses in the address parsing and key-reveal paths touched here. This change does not show the proposed InvalidParameter mapping fix.
  • dashpay/platform#5738: The issue describes guard panics when a wallet is removed. This change adds direct lookup handling in key derivation, but does not change the guard types.

Possibly related PRs

  • dashpay/platform#5725: Both changes move wallet operations from key-wallet FFI to platform-wallet FFI and update SDK bindings.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review c5f9f

The SDK migration is mergeable with bounded follow-up: document the scan's blocking-context restriction and validate raw C network arguments. Existing Swift and JNI call paths avoid these triggers, and the previously identified address, mnemonic, and derivation issues are addressed.

Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2

Verified three blocking issues: an unused JNI dependency that fails CI, mnemonic-derived wallet operations implemented in the FFI layer, and duplicated mnemonic word-count validation. Two additional suggestions address upstream derivation defects exercised by the new helpers. This was static verification only; current CI confirms Kotlin passes, Rust workspace checks fail at cargo-machete before tests, and the Swift build is skipped.

🔴 3 blocking | 🟡 2 suggestion(s)

1 finding(s) not shown inline (the lines are not part of this PR's diff)

🔴 Blocking: Remove the unused JNI key-wallet-ffi dependency
packages/rs-unified-sdk-jni/Cargo.toml:18

The mnemonic and transaction bridges now call platform-wallet-ffi, leaving no executable key_wallet_ffi references in rs-unified-sdk-jni, but this dependency remains declared. The current Rust workspace job in run 41574820283 fails specifically because cargo-machete reports this dependency as unused and exits with code 1 before the tests. Remove this dependency and its rs-unified-sdk-jni Cargo.lock entry. The separate rs-unified-sdk-ffi dependency and Swift KeyWallet module can remain for the staged migration.

In `packages/rs-unified-sdk-jni/Cargo.toml`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-unified-sdk-jni/Cargo.toml:18: Remove the unused JNI key-wallet-ffi dependency

In `packages/rs-platform-wallet-ffi/src/derivation.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet-ffi/src/derivation.rs:54-61: Move mnemonic-derived wallet operations below the FFI boundary
joined_addresses implements the mnemonic-to-seed-to-master-to-child-key workflow and chooses empty-passphrase P2PKH derivation inside the binding. extended_pub_key and platform_wallet_wallet_id_from_mnemonic similarly assemble wallet operations here, while the private-key helper moves only its final derivation step into platform-wallet. These are native wallet operations, not ABI conversions. The book's “FFI and mobile SDKs hold no business logic” rule and packages/swift-sdk/CLAUDE.md explicitly require a native library entry point rather than FFI-side stitching. Add the complete stateless operations to platform-wallet, reusing key-wallet primitives and identity computation, and leave C-string conversion, allocation, error mapping and output marshalling here. This also makes the operations available to native callers without reproducing the workflows or depending on an FFI crate.
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet-ffi/src/derivation.rs:278-280: Track checked derivation-index construction in rust-dashcore
The new BIP-44 helper accepts full u32 indices, but key-wallet's bip_44_payment_path constructs ChildNumber variants directly without enforcing their 31-bit invariant. account_index = 0x80000000 therefore derives the same address as account 0 because ckd_priv serializes a hardened index as index | (1 << 31). An oversized address_index also produces a noncanonical normal child, whereas string-path parsing and AccountType::derivation_path reject these values. The ported identity-authentication path helper uses the same unchecked construction pattern. Both supplied rust-dashcore revisions retain this defect. Fix the canonical constructors in dashpay/rust-dashcore using fallible checked child numbers, propagate their errors through the native wallet operations, and cover 0x7fffffff versus 0x80000000. This needs a linked upstream tracking issue before it can be deferred; do not introduce an independent Swift or FFI range policy.
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet-ffi/src/derivation.rs:75-79: Track a fallible BIP-32 depth limit in key-wallet
A path consisting of m followed by 256 /0 components passes DerivationPath::from_str, but ExtendedPrivKey::ckd_priv in both supplied rust-dashcore revisions computes depth as self.depth + 1 on a u8. The new arbitrary-path helpers therefore panic in overflow-checked builds; without overflow checks, the new xpub helper returns an extended public key whose depth has wrapped to zero. The older raw private-key helper already exposed the upstream overflow, but this PR extends its use and adds serialized xpub metadata affected by the wrap. Make canonical child derivation in dashpay/rust-dashcore return a typed depth-overflow error, then propagate it through these helpers and test depths 255 and 256. Link an upstream tracking issue if the repair is deferred rather than adding a binding-only limit.

In `packages/rs-platform-wallet-ffi/src/mnemonic_words.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet-ffi/src/mnemonic_words.rs:105-110: Keep mnemonic word-count validation in its native owner
The pinned key-wallet/src/mnemonic.rs::Mnemonic::generate already validates exactly these five word counts in both feature-gated implementations. This whitelist introduces another owner of the same domain invariant in the binding, contrary to the project's rule that validation lives once in its native owner. Call the canonical generator and translate its result. If preserving ErrorInvalidParameter requires finer error classification, expose that classification from key-wallet rather than maintaining a second word-count validator here.

Point `.platform-ref` at the head of dashpay/platform#5727, `v5.1-dev` plus the `Mnemonic` and `ManagedPlatformWallet` helpers this branch uses. It contains the previous pin `57b5e5fa3`, and its protocol 13 and 14 (`v13.rs`, `v14.rs`) are identical to it.

This is a temporary integration pin. Move it to the merge commit of #5727 once that PR is merged.

marshals_decoded_transaction_across_the_boundary checks only that inputs[0].address is non-null. A regression that writes the output recipient into the input address still passes this test. The Swift and JNI checks do not cover this case, because their fixtures do not use a different sender and recipient.

Use a second key for the output recipient, so the sender key in the script_sig differs from the output address. Then assert that inputs[0].address equals the expected sender address string, the same way the output address is compared.

Update the fixture in marshals_decoded_transaction_across_the_boundary to use a
distinct key for the output recipient and the sender key in script_sig, then
assert that inputs[0].address equals the expected sender address string,
matching the existing output-address comparison.
Nitpick Add a successful account-0 fallback case to the FFI test.

317-324: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Add a successful account-0 fallback case to the FFI test.

The test covers one tracked receive address and one foreign address. The foreign lookup runs the account-0 search but returns None. No case checks a successful fallback result across the FFI boundary. An FFI change that returns only tracked-pool paths would still pass.

Derive the address at m/44'/1'/0'/0/299 from TEST_WALLET_MNEMONIC and assert its path. The core test uses the same fixture and documents that index as past the tracked pools.

Add a successful account-0 fallback case to the FFI test using
TEST_WALLET_MNEMONIC: derive the receive address at m/44'/1'/0'/0/299 and assert
that path returns that derivation through path. Keep the existing
tracked-address and foreign-address assertions unchanged.

Thanks, all five addressed in c73eabf13:

  1. Unused JNI key-wallet-ffi dependency: removed from rs-unified-sdk-jni, and cargo machete is clean.
  2. Wallet logic in the FFI layer: moved to rs-platform-wallet, and the helpers were reshaped so no host passes a path or an index. wallet_id_for_mnemonic and first_receive_address_for_mnemonic cover the flows that run before a wallet exists. PlatformWallet::core_address_path finds an address in the account pools, then searches BIP-44 account 0 up to BIP44_ADDRESS_SEARCH_LIMIT using the account xpub. derive_core_address_private_key derives at that path. The FFI only marshals. The phrase-and-path helpers (addresses_from_mnemonic, private_key_from_mnemonic, xpub_from_mnemonic, account_path) are gone, and dashwallet-ios (refactor(wallet): move off the SDK's KeyWallet module dashwallet-ios#1299) no longer reads the phrase for these features.
  3. Duplicated word-count check: dropped. Mnemonic::generate decides, and its error maps through the existing key_wallet::Error conversion.
  4. Unchecked child indexes: tracked as fix(key-wallet): check child indexes in the dip9 path builders rust-dashcore#1297. No entry point in this PR takes a caller-supplied index any more.
  5. BIP-32 depth overflow: tracked as fix(key-wallet): refuse BIP-32 depth past 255 instead of overflowing rust-dashcore#1298. No entry point in this PR takes a caller-supplied path any more.

@thepastaclaw re your review at 05317eb08: agreed, the resolve_master_from_resolver doc is wrong about ExtendedPrivKey. That comment predates this PR on v5.1-dev and sits outside its diff, so I added it to #5740, which already covers the remaining key-source work in that file.

Requesting changes for Kotlin parity. This PR adds the new helpers to platform-wallet-ffi but wraps them only in Swift. rs-unified-sdk-jni still binds just platform_wallet_mnemonic_generate and platform_wallet_transaction_decode. Please add JNI exports and Kotlin wrappers matching the Swift ones:

  • platform_wallet_mnemonic_validate → Mnemonic.validate
  • platform_wallet_wallet_id_from_mnemonic → Mnemonic.walletId
  • platform_wallet_first_receive_address_from_mnemonic → Mnemonic.firstReceiveAddress
  • platform_wallet_address_validate → Address.validate
  • platform_wallet_identity_authentication_path → KeyDerivation.getIdentityAuthenticationPath
  • platform_wallet_find_bip44_address_path → findBIP44AddressPath on the Kotlin platform-wallet handle
  • platform_wallet_bip44_address_private_key → bip44AddressPrivateKey on the same handle

Please follow the Swift wrappers in each case: reject an embedded NUL, and throw DashSdkError.PlatformWallet on failure. Kotlin tests matching the new Swift ones would keep the two SDKs pinned to the same answers, e.g. English and French phrases for walletId/firstReceiveAddress.

@HashEngineering There were no Kotlin wrappers before this PR so i don’t think this should block here. The PR is already quite big and reviewed and adding Kotlin wrappers was not the intention here. I think it should rather be its own PR?
