- Around line 228-237: Update the error fallback in the catch block in
Overview.tsx (lines 228-237) to use fiatRamps.onramperCheckoutFailed only when
ramp.id is OnRamper; use a generic error key for other providers. Apply the same
provider-specific fallback in FiatRampTrade.tsx (lines 396-405), checking
selectedQuote.provider and using the generic key for non-OnRamper errors.

Status update: backend microservices #71 is merged and deployed to Railway Develop checkout is enabled for the authorized live test, using the existing production public API key and the server-only V2 signing key matching the public key submitted to Onramper. Wallet authentication, challenge replay rejection, unauthenticated checkout rejection, session revocation, and preview-origin CORS passed. Production deployments are unchanged; no purchase or transfer was made. Current blocker: Onramper returns empty crypto/fiat lists from Waiting on Onramper to confirm API-key/provider access (restore it or issue a replacement key as needed) and confirm registration of the submitted V2 public key, including any required preview-origin restrictions. Key suspension is suspected but unconfirmed; a replacement API key is not yet confirmed necessary. Once resolved, update the API key on both sides if it changes, repeat the full preview checkout, and proceed through review and the normal develop-to-production release process. V1 revocation remains a separate required containment action. |
Description
Remove Onramper's browser signing secret and create V2 checkout through the companion backend. Before checkout, ask the connected EVM wallet to sign a canonical SIWE challenge bound to the app, wallet, and network. Keep the resulting short-lived session token in memory and authenticate both intent issuance and redemption.
Validate the challenge before asking for a signature and validate the returned widget URL before opening it. A changed wallet or receive address the wallet does not control aborts checkout. Both Buy/Sell entry points surface translated errors. Non-EVM Onramper assets are excluded pending chain-specific ownership verification.
Builds fail if the legacy
VITE_ONRAMPER_SIGNING_KEYremains configured. No V2 private key is shipped to the browser.Issue (if applicable)
No linked issue.
Risk
High: changes Onramper wallet authentication and Buy/Sell checkout. Requires two approvals. Deploy with microservices #71, backend first. The development build now sets
VITE_ONRAMPER_SIGNING_URL=https://dev-api.user-service.shapeshift.com; configure the matching signer for production separately and remove the legacy signing variable from all build environments. Leave backend checkout disabled until Onramper V2 registration and staging acceptance are confirmed. Do not restore V1 during rollback.Testing
Engineering
15 targeted checkout and wallet-signing tests passed locally: canonical challenge validation, signed-message hex encoding and account derivation, mismatch/disconnect/wallet-change rejection, in-memory session reuse, authenticated structured requests, 401 session clearing, and returned-URL validation. Workspace package build, full lint, full TypeScript, and all 15 targeted tests passed after updating to current develop on head
bf6a779d04. GitHub CI is running for the final head. Lint has nine existing warnings. The companion backend README contains local startup commands. Its simulator uses generated credentials, supports ETH on Ethereum / USD, and creates no real order or transfer. The owner confirmed the local browser Buy flow reached “Wallet-authorized checkout passed” on 12 October 2026.
Run:
pnpm exec vitest run --project web src/components/Modals/FiatRamps/fiatRampProviders/onramper/index.test.ts src/components/Modals/FiatRamps/fiatRampProviders/onramper/useOnramperWalletAuth.test.ts pnpm run lint --fix pnpm run type-checkInspect browser requests and built artifacts for absence of signing secrets. Test real Onramper staging signature acceptance with the paired backend. The production public key has been sent to Onramper; provider confirmation is pending. Engineering must supply an assigned QA URL, exact commit, staging API-key assignment, and provider readiness before Operations starts.
Operations
Select Buy → ETH on Ethereum → USD 100 → Onramper. Connect a test EVM wallet and approve the sign-in message. Verify the provider widget preserves destination, amount, fiat, and asset; check its return flow. Repeat Sell with a suitable test balance.
Reject a signature, try a different receive address, change wallets during signing, replay a widget URL These should block checkout and show an error. No real purchase or transfer is required for testing.
Screenshots (if applicable)
Existing trading UI; local browser smoke confirmed the simulator checkout. Actual provider staging screenshots should accompany Operations sign-off.
