feat(specs): make built-in inventory visibility configurable - #2379
Operators can set specs.builtins_visible to false to omit built-in rigs, agents, and workflows from the shared spec inventory used by the CLI and TUI. The default remains unchanged. rig specs ls --include-builtins exposes the built-ins on demand, and explicit lookups and launch paths remain available. This is an inventory preference, not an access boundary.
All 10 GitHub checks passed: Tests (all nine jobs, including the macOS daemon suite) and Portability report.
Confirmed the earlier macOS daemon CI failure was the /api/config test expecting 93 keys instead of 94; updated the count and asserted the new setting's default. The focused route test passes locally.
A new workflow test first reproduced the stale source link (version 10 displayed version 2), then passed after the fix. It verifies edits from 1 to 2 to 10 and back to 2, including the purpose and steps, and checks that the explicit version 10 review still shows version 10.
35 related library/scanner tests, the three focused workflow-copy cases, and nine CLI alias tests passed locally; daemon build and typecheck passed. git diff --check passed.
Native Windows is not a supported OpenRig test platform: three unrelated full-file cases fail due to Unix-style path assumptions. The focused cases above pass; the full supported-platform checks passed in GitHub CI.
Anything you were unsure about
The workflow cache stores one row per name and version. For a byte-identical user copy of a cached built-in, this change projects a separate source-specific library entry without changing cache ownership. The source link is now projected only for a cached row matching the current file content; explicit version-history entries are unchanged. Existing cache behavior for distinct workflow contents sharing the same name and version remains unchanged.
A same-name user and built-in spec remain ambiguous when both are visible, preserving the default lookup behavior. When built-ins are hidden, a visible user spec wins a name lookup; the explicit built-in ID remains available through rig specs ls --include-builtins --json.

Walkthrough
The CLI and daemon now support configurable visibility for built-in rigs, agents, and workflows in inventory listings. The CLI can explicitly include built-ins. Explicit spec lookups remain available, and workflow entries can represent user files that match built-ins.
Both configuration stores accept specs.builtins_visible, map it to OPENRIG_SPECS_BUILTINS_VISIBLE, and default it to true. The documentation describes the setting and its effect on inventory listings.
Daemon inventory and workflow entries packages/daemon/src/domain/spec-library-workflow-scanner.ts, packages/daemon/src/routes/spec-library.ts, packages/daemon/test/spec-library-*.test.ts
The daemon filters inventory according to the setting, unless include_builtins=true is requested. It adds source-specific workflow entries for verified user files, supports reviewing those entries, and applies visibility filtering to sync results.
rig specs ls accepts --include-builtins and combines it with the optional kind filter. Spec resolution prefers visible matches while retaining exact-ID lookup for hidden built-ins. Default-agent lookup requests built-in entries.
mvschwarz/openrig#2333: The issue requests hiding built-in specs from inventory while retaining on-demand access; this change adds the visibility setting and explicit include option.

Prefer the user spec for same-name lookups.
With the default specs.builtins_visible=true, the first library response can contain both the user spec and the built-in. resolveLibrarySpec then reports Spec name '<name>' is ambiguous instead of selecting the user spec. This breaks same-name show, preview, bootstrap, and launch lookups.

Thanks again, @Nikhila-Dhevi-R, for the pull request and for taking up #2333. Since it adds a new setting, the product question of whether and how we'd take it comes before code review. It's with the team, and we'll come back here with that answer.
Thanks again, @Nikhila-Dhevi-R. We've read it at 8368144a (from the source; we haven't run it), and the shape works for #2333, @EZotoff's request. With the setting at its default, lists and lookups behave as before. With specs.builtins_visible: false, built-ins leave the shared inventory, while explicit lookup, launch and default-agent resolution still work. Two changes, please:
The failing daemon test is from this PR.packages/daemon/test/user-settings-routes.test.ts:134 expects 93 settings keys, and specs.builtins_visible is the 94th, so CI fails with "expected 94 to be 93". Updating that count (and its comment above) should let it go green.
A stale workflow description. In packages/daemon/src/routes/spec-library.ts (around lines 70-77), the source-specific workflow alias is added for every cached version at a path, so whichever version is set last wins. What a person sees: after their copy of a built-in workflow goes from version 1 to 2 to 10, its review link can show version 2's purpose and steps under the current file, while the file itself is version 10. Could you bind the alias to the current verified file (its identity or content), and leave explicit version history alone?
Optionally, the source-specific projection could be shaped a little more simply, but the current shape is fine. We'll take another look once both changes are pushed.
Keep the current source alias when only historical rows share its path.
If a user copy changes from built-in version 1 to version 2 and then returns to version 1, the version 2 cache row remains at the user path. This filter hides the verified version 1 alias because that historical row shares its path. With built-ins hidden, the listing exposes version 2 instead of the current file, and name-based preview can return the old review. Deduplicate against the current identity, while keeping historical versions available by ID. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Update the `entries` filter so a workflow row sharing `entry.sourcePath`
suppresses a `workflow-source:` alias only when it represents the current
identity, not merely a historical version at that path. Keep historical versions
available by ID and ensure the verified current alias remains listed.

Approved at 77d9ae9. specs.builtins_visible (default true) lets an operator leave built-in rigs, agents and workflows out of the shared CLI and TUI inventory; rig specs ls --include-builtins lists them, and explicit lookups and launches still reach them. A user workflow copy's source link is projected only while the cache row for its name and version holds the file's current content. Required CI passes at this head.
Thanks again, @Nikhila-Dhevi-R, for making both changes, and thanks to @EZotoff for the request in #2333. It's merged into main now: rig config set specs.builtins_visible false leaves built-in rigs, agents and workflows out of the spec listing the CLI and TUI share, while user specs stay visible and the default is unchanged. rig specs ls --include-builtins lists them on purpose, and explicit show, preview and launch lookups still find them. As the reference notes, it's an inventory preference, not an access-control boundary.
