Bumps vercel from 58.4.4 to 62.2.0.

Changelog

vercel

59.11.7

Patch Changes

  • 1109c9e: Update CLI command behavior.

59.11.6

Patch Changes

  • f5fd254: Stage native binary dependencies with pnpm deploy --frozen-lockfile (hoisted layout) and prune the tree to what the CLI's non-builder runtime dependencies can reach, instead of a handwritten, flattened allowlist. The binary now ships exactly the versions in pnpm-lock.yaml, nested dependency versions are preserved (fixes vercel sandbox loading lru-cache@6 instead of lru-cache@10), and platform-specific optional dependencies are resolved for the --target platform. Staging happens outside the repository so pkg cannot follow stray requires into workspace node_modules, and dependency test files are excluded from the snapshot. The binary smoke test accepts the usage exit code 2 that most --help commands return.
  • e492148: Correct metrics help examples for the v1 catalog and use a rolling pageview time range.
  • f5fd254: On non-native CLI, resolve URL-pinned builders from CLI dependencies when a cached .vercel/builders copy does not match the pin, instead of npm-installing the preview tarball. Publish preview tarballs at flat filenames (e.g. vercel-node.tgz) so yarn 1 and pnpm 8 can both install them. Preview pack also hoists nested registry deps of those tarball pins onto the parent (e.g. js-yaml from @vercel/python-analysis) because yarn 1 does not install them.

59.11.5

Patch Changes

  • ffe0cab: Fix vercel flags split and vercel flags rules add help examples to use false/true variant values, and treat flags / @flags-sdk/vercel as notable dependencies in vercel skills.

59.11.4

Patch Changes

  • a3c4302: Clarify --trigger-branch help on vercel connect create and vercel connect attach. The flag targets a git branch's preview deployment; production is selected by omitting the flag, not by passing production as a branch name.
  • 2c5ed83: Fix firewall overview failing on plans without IP Bypass. The command no longer errors when the bypass endpoint is unavailable, and reports system mitigation status from the project rather than the plan-gated bypass API. With --json, a bypassUnavailable field now explains why bypass is null.
  • aae0a62: Reduce vercel deploy startup time by lazy-loading modules that are only needed for first-time project setup, --dry output, and experimental services detection (@vercel/frameworks, @vercel/fs-detectors, the vercel.json schema validator, and vercel env pull).

59.11.3

Patch Changes

  • 36a6a4e: Only list internal trace sampling rules with vercel traces config ls.
  • Updated dependencies [1817491]

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Maintenance
    • Production deployments now verify the Vercel CLI against the trusted version pin and stop if the versions differ.
    • Supply-chain checks now validate sandbox advisory exceptions against dependency paths, stable package versions, and expiry limits.
    • Updated operational guidance and automated tests cover the deployment version check and advisory exception rules. These changes do not add or remove end-user product features.

Walkthrough

The deployment workflow now checks the installed Vercel CLI against the version in the trusted tooling manifest. The OSV exception checker validates advisory exceptions and sandbox dependency paths against lockfile data.

Changes

Vercel supply-chain checks

Layer / File(s) Summary
Trusted Vercel CLI pin
package.json, .github/workflows/deploy.yml, scripts/check-vercel-provenance.test.mjs, docs/runbooks/vercel-ops.md, scripts/check-vercel-provenance.mjs, CHANGELOG.md
The pinned Vercel CLI dependency changes to 62.2.0. The deployment workflow reads the expected version from the trusted tooling manifest and rejects a mismatch. Tests and runbook text describe the version check and provenance status. The missing-provenance error now links to the runbook.
OSV exception validation
scripts/check-osv-exceptions.mjs, scripts/check-osv-exceptions.test.mjs, package.json, osv-scanner.toml, docs/runbooks/vercel-ops.md
The checker validates the two expected advisory IDs, expiry bounds, reason evidence, and stable sandbox versions reachable through the root Vercel dependency. Tests cover accepted and rejected lockfile cases. The OSV exception tests are added to ops:test, and the scanner reasons and runbook describe the checks.

This upgrade pins a Vercel CLI release that lacks the required provenance attestation. CI and production deployments will fail under the repository's supply-chain policy. Keep the attested 58.4.4 pin until an attested release is available.

RetriggerConfidence Score: 5/5

[High impact] No new actionable issue was found; the existing provenance gate still prevents this unattested upgrade from landing.

Summary

Updates vercel to 62.2.0 and removes version-specific checks that duplicated the manifest pin.

  • The tooling installs Vercel CLI 62.2.0 and its updated dependencies.
  • Production deploys check the CLI version from the trusted tooling manifest.
  • OSV exceptions now follow the sandbox package facts that justify them.

This Dependabot bump cannot be merged as-is.

Repo policy (docs/runbooks/vercel-ops.md) requires verified SLSA provenance for the pinned Vercel CLI. 58.4.4 is the newest attested public release; later CLIs (including 62.1.0) have no provenance attestation. CI already fails check-osv-exceptions.mjs and would fail deps:provenance and the production CLI version gate.

We will not drop those gates. Leaving this PR open until an attested Vercel CLI release exists (or closing it if Dependabot supersedes).

Update after Dependabot retargeted this PR to vercel@62.2.0: npm still has no provenance attestations (registry.npmjs.org/-/npm/v1/attestations/vercel@62.2.0 is 404). CI remains red (ci_contracts / nextjs) because of the OSV pin guard, production CLI version check, and deps:provenance. Still cannot merge without violating docs/runbooks/vercel-ops.md.

Replace the pinned Vercel CLI 58.4.4 / sandbox@3.4.0 tripwire with the
condition that justifies the exceptions: every sandbox in the lockfile is a
stable release at or above 1.0.0 (outside both advisories' affected range),
reached only through the root Vercel CLI dependency. Stale exceptions fail
once sandbox disappears, and expiry must now fall between 30 days and one
year out so exceptions still get periodic review. Add regression tests and
run them in ops:test.

…fest

The production guard compared vercel --version with a literal that had to
match package.json. Compare it with the trusted tooling package.json that
deps:provenance verifies earlier in the same job instead, so the deployed
binary is still exactly the attested pin without a second copy to edit.

Status: leaving open, not mergeable. The only remaining blocker is real.

After this push every required check is green except nextjs, which fails only at pnpm deps:provenance (log):

vercel@62.2.0 has no verified SLSA provenance; see docs/runbooks/vercel-ops.md#cli-provenance

e2e shows as skipped only because it needs: nextjs. Run locally against this branch, Playwright passes 36/36, as do lint, grammar, Vitest, Convex tests/typecheck, ruff, pytest (82), and next build.

Why provenance can't pass (nothing on our side can fix this)

  • Vercel moved CLI development and npm publishing to the private vercel/vercel-internal repo (vercel/vercel#17408). npm doesn't generate provenance for private-repo publishes.
  • Registry data confirms it. 58.4.4 was the last release published through trusted-publisher config oidc:6d25116d… with SLSA v1 provenance. From 58.5.1 through 63.1.2 (latest today), every release uses config b6cdec03…, has no dist.attestations, and registry.npmjs.org/-/npm/v1/attestations/vercel@<v> returns 404. The public repo's last vercel@ release is 58.4.4, and its release CI is frozen.
  • Vercel's suggested substitute is to compare vercel.com/docs/cli/release-notes/npm/<v>/integrity with npm's dist.integrity. For 62.2.0 it matches npm, but it returns 404 for 63.1.1/63.1.2, and it's an unsigned vendor assertion with no source binding. The runbook requires an explicit maintainer review before adopting any alternative verification policy, so I didn't adopt it.

What this push changes (rebase was a no-op; the branch was already on main @ 449ba80)

  1. fix(ci): check-osv-exceptions.mjs no longer requires vercel 58.4.4 / sandbox@3.4.0. It checks the condition that justifies the exceptions: every sandbox is a stable release ≥1.0.0 (outside both advisories' <1.0.0 range), it's reachable only through the root vercel devDependency, and it fails if sandbox disappears. Exceptions must expire between 30 days and one year out (the ceiling is new). The two exceptions still carry a justification and advisory link. 8 new regression tests run in ops:test.
  2. ci(deploy): the production guard compares vercel --version with the trusted tooling package.json, the same manifest deps:provenance verifies earlier in that job, instead of a literal 58.4.4. CI never got far enough to report this third blocker: ops:test would also have failed.
  3. The provenance error message now points to the runbook. The verification logic (Sigstore identity, vercel/vercel release.yml@refs/heads/main, digest) is unchanged.
  4. Runbook and CHANGELOG updated.

These policy commits are also in #304 against main with the attested 58.4.4 pin, where CI is fully green (including deps:provenance and e2e). Your earlier note expects Dependabot to supersede this PR, so #304 keeps the fixes from being lost. With #304 merged, a future attested vercel bump needs only manifest changes.

Other checks

  • Security impact of staying on 58.4.4: pnpm audit is identical on main and on this branch (15 findings, all pre-existing in the deploy/build tooling trees), so 62.2.0 fixes nothing. #305 patches 14 of them through the existing overrides. The remaining one, braces ≤3.0.3 (GHSA-vfj7-8cjw-p6xm), has no fixed release and is documented there.
  • Next.js / sharp: not needed here. main already has next@16.3.8 (build(deps): bump next from 16.3.6 to 16.3.8 #296) and sharp@0.35.5, the patched versions for the October Next.js advisories (e.g. GHSA-cjq9-62q9-8jv4) and GHSA-wq5f-xc86-pv6w. No advisory affects either version, and there are no open Dependabot PRs for them.
  • .github/dependabot.yml: unchanged. An ignore rule would silence a real failure, and grouping wouldn't help, because any group containing vercel would be blocked the same way.

What would unblock this

An attested Vercel CLI release: the npm attestations endpoint returning SLSA v1 provenance from vercel/vercel release.yml. The other option is an explicit maintainer decision to adopt an alternative verification policy (see docs/runbooks/vercel-ops.md).

Reviews: Greptile re-reviewed 09a5be7 and found no new actionable issues. CodeRabbit skipped automatic review (bot-authored PR) and is currently rate-limited on the free OSS plan; I'll re-trigger it when the limit resets.

Keep an attested Vercel CLI pin until the provenance policy changes.

vercel@62.2.0 has no npm provenance attestation. The unchanged deps:provenance gate therefore rejects this pin in CI and before production deployment. Keep 58.4.4, or explicitly approve a different verification policy before upgrading. Vercel confirms that releases from 58.5.1 onward lack npm provenance. (github.com)

Agreed on the substance, and that is why this PR is being left open rather than merged. deps:provenance is intentionally unchanged and still rejects vercel@62.2.0 (no npm attestation for any release from 58.5.1 through 63.1.2; see vercel/vercel#17408 and docs/runbooks/vercel-ops.md#cli-provenance).

Reverting the pin here would turn this Dependabot PR into a no-op bump. The version-agnostic policy fixes (range-based OSV sandbox exception, manifest-derived deploy guard) are carried separately on the attested 58.4.4 pin in #304, which is green. This PR stays blocked until Vercel publishes an attested release or a maintainer explicitly approves a different verification policy.
