Proposed changes (including videos or screenshots)

The import E2E spec currently contains five expect(locator) calls without matchers. Those statements do not assert anything, so the imported-user, room member-count, and direct-message checks can stay green without verifying the outcomes named by the tests.

This change replaces those statements with awaited assertions on the imported rows and values. It also aligns the checks with the current administration tables:

  • register a wait for each exact users.listByStatus search response before filling the user search, then check the rendered result;
  • verify the intentionally excluded user through the rendered empty-result state;
  • scope room and direct-message counts to semantic Users/Msgs cells within their matching rows;
  • add localized accessible names to those admin table cells and use them in the page object;
  • pin the spec to a desktop viewport because the Msgs column is responsive;
  • ignore an empty CSV member entry and exclude the intentionally deselected user from the direct-message fixture expectations.

Issue(s)

No linked issue. This is a focused correction for five matcher-less assertions and the semantic locators needed to verify their results.

Steps to test or reproduce

cd apps/meteor
yarn eslint ./client/views/admin/rooms/RoomRow.tsx ./tests/e2e/imports.spec.ts ./tests/e2e/page-objects/admin-rooms.ts
BASE_URL=http://localhost:3000 CI=true PLAYWRIGHT_RETRIES=0 yarn test:e2e ./tests/e2e/imports.spec.ts

Targeted ESLint passed for the changed E2E spec and page object. Prettier, changeset status, and git diff --check also passed locally.

Further comments

The production change is limited to localized accessible names on the Users and Msgs count cells. A patch changeset is included for @rocket.chat/meteor.

Found while reviewing the test suite with e2e-skills/e2e-reviewer.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Accessibility

    • Added accessible labels to user and message counts in the administration Rooms table, improving screen-reader clarity.
  • Tests

    • Improved automated coverage for user imports, searches, rooms, and direct messages.
    • Added validation for room user and message counts.
    • Updated membership and visibility checks.
    • Increased reliability by synchronizing checks with application responses and using consistent page interactions.

Replace matcher-less locator expressions with awaited, row-scoped assertions and synchronize user searches with the matching API response.

Constraint: Keep the existing import fixtures and admin-table behavior unchanged.
Rejected: Generic table-cell locators | they can match rows unrelated to the imported entity.
Confidence: high
Scope-risk: Rocket.Chat admin import E2E only.
Not-tested: Full Rocket.Chat E2E suite.

Learning: For changes related to OpenAPI migrations in Rocket.Chat/OpenAPI, when removing endpoint types and validators from rocket.chat/rest-typings (e.g., UserRegisterParamsPOST, /v1/users.register) document this as a minor changeset (not breaking) per RocketChat/Rocket.Chat-Open-API#150 Rule 7. Note that the endpoint type is re-exposed via a module augmentation .d.ts in the consuming package (e.g., packages/web-ui-registration/src/users-register.d.ts). In reviews, ensure the changeset clearly states: this is a non-breaking change, the major version should not be bumped, and the changeset reflects a minor version bump. Do not treat this as a breaking change during OpenAPI migrations.

Learning: In Rocket.Chat, there are two different `ModalBackdrop` components with different prop APIs. During review, confirm the import source: (1) `rocket.chat/fuselage` `ModalBackdrop` uses `ModalBackdropProps` based on `BoxProps` (so it supports `onClick` and other Box/DOM props) and does not have an `onDismiss` prop; (2) `rocket.chat/ui-client` `ModalBackdrop` uses a narrower props interface like `{ children?: ReactNode; onDismiss?: () => void }` and handles Escape keypress and outside mouse-up, and it does not forward arbitrary DOM props such as `onClick`. Flag mismatched props (e.g., `onDismiss` passed to the fuselage component or `onClick` passed to the ui-client component) and ensure the usage matches the correct component being imported.

Learning: Field wrappers in rocket.chat/fuselage-forms (Field, FieldLabel, FieldRow, FieldError, FieldHint) auto-create htmlFor/id associations, aria-describedby, and role="alert" for errors. Do not manually set htmlFor, id, aria-describedby, or role attributes when using these wrappers. This automatic wiring does not apply to plain rocket.chat/fuselage components, which require explicit ID wiring per the accessibility docs. In code reviews, prefer using fuselage-forms wrappers for form fields and verify there is no unnecessary manual ID/aria wiring in files that use these wrappers. If a component uses plain fuselage components, ensure proper id wiring as per docs.

Walkthrough

The import end-to-end test now uses page objects, synchronized search responses, awaited Playwright assertions, filtered member counts, and accessible room-count locators.

Accessible room count locators
apps/meteor/client/views/admin/rooms/RoomRow.tsx, apps/meteor/tests/e2e/page-objects/admin-rooms.ts, .changeset/accessible-room-counts.md
Room count cells now expose translated Users and Msgs labels. AdminRooms locates cells by room name and exact count.
Synchronized import assertions
apps/meteor/tests/e2e/imports.spec.ts, apps/meteor/tests/e2e/page-objects/admin-users.ts
The import test uses a fixed viewport, synchronized user searches, awaited row assertions, filtered member counts, and matching room-row checks. AdminUsers exposes reusable search filling.

Keep the user search interaction in AdminUsers.

The test creates poAdmin but directly accesses the search textbox. Add a page-object helper that only fills the search field, or parameterize the existing helper for positive and negative results. Do not call the current searchUser helper unchanged for billy.billy, because it expects one matching row.

As per coding guidelines, store commonly used locators and follow the Page Object Model in Playwright tests. Based on learnings, use the existing page-object pattern from apps/meteor/tests/e2e/page-objects/.

Learning: In Playwright end-to-end tests (e.g., under apps/meteor/tests/e2e/...), prefer locating elements by translated text (getByText) and ARIA roles (getByRole) over data-qa attributes. If translation values change, update the corresponding test locators accordingly. Never use data-qa locators. Therefore, screen.getByRole('code') or screen.findByRole('code') will locate <code> elements even without a role attribute.
