Overview

P0-TK-1 · Monorepo README + new CONTRIBUTING + prospective-SPEC process (#50)

  • CONTRIBUTING.md — new; copied from the canonical living-doc-collector-gh/CONTRIBUTING.md
(only the two GitHub Issues URLs adapted to AbsaOSS/living-doc-toolkit), plus the one
Monorepo PR scope paragraph at the end of ## Contributing to Development
    (repo-conventions.md §6.2). Byte-identical to the reference otherwise.
  • README.md — added the verbatim cross-shape signpost line (repo-conventions.md
§3.2 step 3) and both boilerplate paragraphs at the top of ## Overview: §4A adapted for
the CLI-as-workflow-step case ("the living-doc CLI is invoked as a step in a GitHub
Actions workflow … running living-doc <service> locally is a development and debugging
affordance only"), §4B (AI-free principle) verbatim. The intentional
Understand / Use / Maintain + ## Services monorepo taxonomy is kept; the dead
    CHANGELOG.md link is replaced with a CONTRIBUTING.md pointer; a SPEC.md pointer is
    added under ### Understand.
  • SPEC.md — new; the prospective-spec process for the monorepo: a document
lifecycle clause (implemented sections move into the live docs), "when a spec is
required", a required-contents checklist for a new service and a new adapter
(adapted from docs/architecture.md "Extension Points" + docs/contracts.md change
control), a review rubric, and an empty Pending specifications list. .gitignore
    un-ignores the file (a spec.md entry, case-insensitively matching SPEC.md, had
suppressed the pre-Phase-0 implementation spec after it was consumed into docs/).
  • DEVELOPER.md — the "Branch Naming Convention" section is aligned to the canonical
CONTRIBUTING.md (issue number mandatory right after the prefix) and points at it as the
    source of truth.
  • Companion change: living-doc/docs/specs/repo-conventions.md §3.2 updated to point at
living-doc-toolkit/SPEC.md as the ecosystem reference process (satisfies the "repo-conventions.md
points at it" criterion). docs/specs/ is git-ignored in the local living-doc checkout —
it is a working planning artifact — so this is a working-tree edit, not a change carried by
    this repo's PR.

P0-TK-2 · copilot-instructions (fix "Repo specifics") + agents board + .claude/ (#51)

  • .github/copilot-instructions.md / .github/copilot-review-rules.md — rewritten
from the drifted "portable core + Repo additions" template to the canonical shape
    (repo-conventions.md §8): fixed section order, a single Must / Must not / Prefer /
Avoid dialect with a "House rules" block, no "keep portable" meta-rules. The
"Repo specifics" block is real: the six-package module map, the pure-vs-I/O split,
CLI-argument inputs, the contract-sensitive outputs (exit-code taxonomies, error
prefixes, schema_version values, AdapterResult), and the per-package make
    vocabulary
    — make qa / make qa-<alias> / make lint-<alias> etc., explicitly
    not repo-root pylint $(git ls-files '*.py') / pytest tests/.
  • .github/agents/{specification-master,reviewer,sdet,senior-developer,devops-engineer}.agent.md
    — new five-file board, byte-identical to the living-doc-utilities reference board
(#109) above "Repo specifics"; the "Repo specifics" block in each is adapted to the
toolkit (Python 3.10 floor, the monorepo make vocabulary, the adapter/coverage
high-risk areas). reviewer keeps the "Acceptance-criteria verification" block (with
toolkit worked examples); sdet keeps the mock/fixture cheat-table naming
    tests/fixtures/collector_gh/v*.
  • .claude/ — new helper set copied from living-doc-collector-gh/.claude/ (#95: coverage matrix aspects #98):
    commands/implement-task.md, commands/verify-pr-ready.md, agents/test-author.md,
rules/docs-lifecycle.md, README.md. Repo-specific parts adapted: the monorepo make
    vocabulary, the doc-lifecycle live-doc targets (docs/architecture.md / docs/contracts.md
/ package READMEs / cookbooks), and the fixture path — tests/fixtures/collector_gh/v*,
the repo's real layout (not the toolkit_adapter path named in the issue body).

P0-TK-3 · Python 3.10 floor + per-package command vocabulary (#52)

  • All 6 package pyproject.toml + root — requires-python = ">=3.14" → ">=3.10"
    (packages), Black target-version = ['py314'] → ['py310'] (all 7),
    [tool.mypy] python_version = "3.14" → "3.10" (all 7), and a new
    [tool.pylint.main] py-version = "3.10" (all 7). The root pyproject.toml has no
[project] table, so it gets the Black/mypy/pylint/ruff knobs but no requires-python.
  • ruff gate (repo-conventions.md §7.6) — a new [tool.ruff] block in the root and
    all 6 package pyproject.toml files (target-version = "py310", line-length = 120,
    select = ["E4", "E7", "E9", "F", "I", "B"], extend-exclude = ["tests", "verifications"]
to match this repo's existing Pylint / Black / mypy scope); ruff>=0.8.0 added to each
    package's dev extras. Per-package lint-<alias> runs ruff check . then Pylint;
format-<alias> runs ruff check --fix . then Black. ruff check --fix sorted imports
    in 7 src/ modules across apps/cli, packages/adapters/collector_gh, and
packages/datasets_pdf — no other findings, no logic change.
  • Dev-tooling floors bumped in every package's [project.optional-dependencies] dev
    (pytest>=8, pytest-cov>=5, black>=24, pylint>=3.3, ruff>=0.8.0, mypy>=1.11);
make qa is green on the latest installed stable versions (black 26.1.0, pylint 4.0.4,
    ruff 0.16.6, mypy 1.19.1, pytest 9.0.2, pytest-cov 7.0.0).
  • Makefile — rewritten to the canonical command vocabulary
    (repo-conventions.md §7.4): seven targets — qa, lint, format, format-check,
types, test, coverage — each with an aggregate form and a per-package
    <target>-<alias> form (aliases core, datasets-pdf, collector-gh, normalize,
coverage, cli). lint runs ruff then Pylint; format runs ruff check --fix then
Black. New format-check (Black --check, no writes — make qa uses it, so CI can no
longer silently reformat past a violation). The pre-Phase-0 names (py-qa, black,
pylint, mypy, pytest-unit and their per-package forms) still work as deprecated
aliases for one release, each printing a one-line notice and delegating
(.github/workflows/test.yml's make py-qa stays green). Static pattern rules for
    GNU Make 3.81 compatibility.
  • packages/services/coverage_matrix/.../schema_validation.py — the compatibility
sweep found one 3.11+-only construct the §0 tasklist sweep missed:
    resources.files(...).joinpath("schema", FILE) (multi-argument Traversable.joinpath,
    3.12+). Rewritten to chained single-argument .joinpath("schema").joinpath(FILE) —
3.10-safe, semantically identical. mypy with python_version = "3.10" catches this,
and it is the only code edit.
  • DEVELOPER.md — "QA Automation with Make", the per-tool sections, and "Code
Coverage" rewritten to the canonical make targets; a Python 3.10 floor note added to
"Set Up Python Environment"; the broken Fixed placeholder in the Black section removed.
  • CI workflow convergence (test.yml / integration.yml matrix, detect/noop) is
    P0-TK-4
, not this PR — both still pin python-version: '3.14'; make py-qa keeps them
    green in the interim.

Compatibility sweep (P0-TK-3)

Re-run across packages/ + apps/ source (tests excluded):

Construct Result
match / case none
tomllib / import tomli none
datetime.UTC (from datetime import UTC) none — datetime.now(timezone.utc) is used
enum.StrEnum, ExceptionGroup, except*, typing.Self, assert_never, typing_extensions, itertools.batched, Path.walk, PEP 695 type X = none
`X Y` union annotations
Traversable.joinpath(*descendants) (multi-arg) 1 hit — coverage_matrix/schema_validation.py:24, fixed to chained single-arg

Release Notes

  • The living-doc-toolkit monorepo now has a CONTRIBUTING.md (canonical ecosystem form
plus a monorepo PR-scope note) and a SPEC.md describing how a new service or adapter is
    specced before it is built.
  • README.md carries the GitHub-Actions-first usage statement, the AI-free-pipeline
statement, and the cross-shape signpost for readers arriving from a single-purpose action
    repo.
  • The Python floor is lowered from 3.14 to 3.10 across all seven pyproject.toml
files (requires-python, Black, mypy, Pylint), widening the range of interpreters the
toolkit installs on. One importlib.resources call is made 3.10-compatible.
  • make now exposes the shared command vocabulary — make qa, make qa-<package>,
make lint-<package>, make format-check, etc. — matching the other living-doc-*
repos, with ruff (E/F/I/B) now part of lint / format alongside Pylint and
Black. The old target names keep working for one release with a deprecation notice.
  • .github/copilot-instructions.md, .github/copilot-review-rules.md, a new five-role
.github/agents/ board, and a new .claude/ helper set replace the drifted AI-tooling
files with the reconciled ecosystem forms and the toolkit's real module map, contracts,
    and QA commands.

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~25 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 9bb92

Existing automation using legacy aggregate Make targets will fail, and the new contributor tooling can validate an incomplete package set or communicate inaccurate CI and I/O behavior. These issues should be corrected before merge.

- Run `make qa` for a full-repo change, or `make qa-<alias>` for the package you touched
(`<alias>` ∈ `core`, `datasets-pdf`, `collector-gh`, `normalize`, `coverage`, `cli`) —
the same targets CI runs.
- Fix every failure and re-run. Repeat until QA exits clean per package:
Pylint ≥ 9.5, Black clean, mypy clean, `pytest --cov-fail-under=80` passing.

Run QA for every package touched by a task. make qa already runs all six packages, and each package’s pytest configuration enforces --cov-fail-under=80; a separate make coverage is not required. Update .claude/commands/implement-task.md so multi-package tasks require make qa-<alias> for every touched package, or make qa, before reporting QA as clean.

Align GitHub guidance with the current workflows.

  • Remove the 3.10–3.14 matrix claims from .github/agents/devops-engineer.agent.md, .github/agents/senior-developer.agent.md, and .github/copilot-instructions.md. Both workflows currently use Python 3.14 only.
  • State that .github/workflows/test.yml invokes deprecated make py-qa, which delegates to make qa. QA still runs.
  • Remove claims that .github/workflows/integration.yml runs the same Makefile targets. It runs verify_golden.py and verify_compatibility.py directly.
  • Update the related target references in .github/agents/senior-developer.agent.md, .github/copilot-instructions.md, and .github/copilot-review-rules.md to match these workflow commands. Agents may otherwise infer that both workflows use identical QA targets.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Classify loader.py as an I/O boundary, not as a pure module.

Lines 46 and 121 say loader.py has no file I/O and needs no mocks. Lines 83-84 place input-file loading in loader.py or service.py, and the fixture guidance uses paths with loader.py. This contradiction can move file access into transform modules or produce tests that do not isolate file I/O. Remove loader.py from the pure-module lists, or state explicitly that only service.py performs file loading.

Also applies to: 83-84, 121-121

GitHub Copilot custom agents .github/agents automatically loaded selected explicitly documentation

💡 Result:

GitHub Copilot custom agents are specialized, user-defined agents created via Markdown files (with an.agent.md extension) [1][2]. When placed in the.github/agents directory of a repository, these agents are automatically detected and available for use within that repository [1][3]. Key details regarding custom agents and their configuration include: Automatic Loading and Availability Agents are automatically loaded by GitHub Copilot when they are defined in specific, standardized directories [3]. Repository-level custom agents are loaded from the.github/agents directory [1][3]. You can also define agents at the organization or enterprise level by using an /agents directory in the organization's.github or.github-private repository [1][3]. Configuration and Control The agent's behavior—including its tools, prompts, and specific instructions—is defined within its.agent.md file [4][2]. Crucially, you can control whether Copilot automatically invokes a custom agent based on task context using the disable-model-invocation property in the agent configuration [5]. - Setting disable-model-invocation: true ensures the agent is only used when manually selected [5]. - If this property is set to false (or left unset, as the default is false), Copilot may automatically leverage the agent based on the relevance of the task [5]. Precedence and Conflicts In cases where agents share the same name, a hierarchy of precedence determines which agent is used [3]: 1. User-level (~/.copilot/agents) [3] 2. Repository-level (.github/agents) [3] 3. Organization-level (/agents in.github or.github-private) [3] 4. Enterprise-level (/agents in enterprise-designated.github-private) [3] You can create these files manually or generate them through the Copilot CLI or IDE interfaces, which provide templates to get started [4][2][6].

The supported floor is **Python 3.10** (`requires-python = ">=3.10"` in every package's
`pyproject.toml`); CI runs the `3.10`–`3.14` matrix. Use any interpreter in that range.

Correct the CI-status claims.

.github/workflows/test.yml currently configures Python 3.14 and invokes make py-qa. The alias delegates to qa, so the gates match, but CI does not run a 3.10–3.14 matrix or call the canonical target. State the current behavior because CI convergence is deferred.

  • DEVELOPER.md#L26-L27: remove the claim that CI runs the 3.10–3.14 matrix.
  • DEVELOPER.md#L71-L72: state that CI currently uses the deprecated compatibility alias.
  • Makefile#L16-L16: remove the claim that the workflow runs the same canonical targets.

This project includes a `Makefile` to simplify running quality-assurance checks across all
packages. Use Make targets instead of manual loops.
This project includes a `Makefile` exposing the shared **command vocabulary**

Fix the canonical command-vocabulary link.

The URL on Line 70 returns 404. Readers cannot access the referenced command contract. Link to an existing canonical document or use a valid repository-relative path. ()

Retain the legacy aggregate targets

The base Makefile defined black-all, pylint-all, mypy-all, and pytest-unit-all. The compatibility block now expands only the names in DEPRECATED and ALIASES, so these targets are absent. Existing calls fail with No rule to make target. Add deprecated aliases that delegate to format, lint, types, and test.
