The visitor-facing UI is translatable (lib/i18n/locales/{en,de}.ts, shipped in #482), but the admin panel is English-only. The idea docs planned exactly this order — visitor UI first, then the panel — and the second half was never done (docs/ideas.md:27, docs/brainstorm-2026-08-05.md:224-235, effort M).
This matters more now than when it was written: the panel is what other operators use to run their own galleries, and new visitor-facing text is arriving that they will need to understand while configuring it (for example the consent gate in #594).
Fix: route the admin strings through the existing i18n layer rather than a second mechanism. The panel's language can follow the site lang or be chosen separately — worth deciding, since an operator may run an English panel over a German site.
Acceptance: the admin panel renders in German with lang: de, with no hardcoded English left in the tab bar, the settings sections, the save bar and the diagnostics report.
Found in the idea documentation while reviewing the admin area; not previously tracked.
