Overview

Feature cost queries now support Accept: text/csv for downloading the same query results as a spreadsheet. JSON remains the default.

The CSV follows meter query's time, subject, customer, and dimension columns, followed by usage,cost,currency,detail. It preserves decimal precision, leaves unavailable costs blank, and retains partial-pricing details. Includes the API contract, server routing, and generated TypeScript and Go SDK methods.

Notes for reviewer

  • CSV now preserves fractional query bounds with RFC3339Nano; unit coverage checks nanoseconds and the representation e2e checks matching JSON/CSV bounds.
  • CSV export guidance is attached to the CSV operations and names the generated CSV methods. JSON methods document their JSON response.
  • Remaining review triage: CSV SDK request bodies are required, but passing an empty query object provides the default query behavior. Optional-body generator changes are deferred. Formula injection is a valid spreadsheet-export concern; text sanitization is deferred pending an explicit export policy because it changes cell values.
  • Fixed CSV column collisions by filtering every fixed column name from custom dimensions in both headers and row values. Query grouping and row counts are unchanged; those dimension values remain available in JSON. The API documentation and regression tests cover this tradeoff.
  • Both feature-cost representations now use query-feature-cost for transport metadata, matching the shared OpenAPI operation ID. The name sets the http.route log-context attribute and optional handler child-span name; it does not select the HTTP route.
  • Rebased onto main and regenerated the conflicted API artifact. The existing live representation e2e also covers a custom cost dimension: default/explicit JSON retain it, while CSV emits one computed-cost column. All three cases passed.
  • JSON and CSV share request decoding, validation, and cost querying, including optional request bodies and grouping implied by filters.
  • Passed focused handler/server/transport tests and lint, Go SDK build/vet/tests and lint, TypeScript SDK typechecking and all 553 tests, and e2e vet/lint.
  • Passed live TestV3QueryFeatureCostRepresentations against a locally built stack: default JSON, explicit JSON, and CSV, including customer/dimension grouping, exact decimal amounts, and CSV escaping. E2E vet and lint also passed.
  • Regenerated AIP/v3 artifacts and SDK documentation with the targeted AIP generator. Legacy SDK generation was not run for this update.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Feature cost queries now support CSV responses alongside JSON, including time bounds, usage, cost, currency, detail, and applicable subject, customer, and grouping columns.
    • Added buffered and streaming CSV query options to the Go client and CSV query support to the JavaScript client.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified CSV formatting, column ordering, timestamps, and unavailable or partial cost handling.
    • Added guidance on customer filters for usage attribution and regenerating API specifications.

The PR appears safe to merge, with non-blocking issues in format selection and historical customer details.

Fix All in Claude CodeFindings

  1. P2 CSV requests return JSON ▶
  2. P2 Historical exports lose customer names ▶
Fix with agent prompt
### Issue 1
api/v3/server/routes.go:467-468
`QueryFeatureCost` returns JSON for a valid header such as `Accept: text/csv, application/json;q=0`. `GetMediaType` parses the whole header as one media type, rejects the comma-separated list, and falls back to JSON. The caller gets a format it explicitly rejected, which its CSV reader cannot read.

Select an acceptable response type from the list, including its quality values, before choosing the handler.

### Issue 2
api/v3/handlers/featurecost/query_csv.go:62-65
CSV exports leave `customer_key` and `customer_name` blank for deleted customers, even when both values remain stored. The shared query resolves customer filters with `IncludeDeleted: true`, so historical usage for a deleted customer can reach this handler. This second `ListCustomers` call omits that flag and excludes the customer before writing those cells.

Set `IncludeDeleted: true` here too so historical exports keep the customer's key and name.

```suggestion
				customers, err := h.customerService.ListCustomers(ctx, customer.ListCustomersInput{
					Namespace:      req.Namespace,
					CustomerIDs:    lo.Uniq(customerIDs),
					IncludeDeleted: true,
				})
```

---

For each issue above, determine whether it is valid and should be fixed. If so, fix it directly.

Summary

Adds CSV downloads for feature-cost queries while keeping JSON as the default.

  • Feature-cost queries can now return CSV downloads.
  • Go and TypeScript clients can request feature-cost CSV results.
  • Repository notes now explain two development workflows.

Walkthrough

The feature-cost query now supports CSV responses alongside JSON. The server routes CSV requests to a formatter, and the Go and JavaScript clients expose CSV query methods. Tests cover formatting, content negotiation, client requests, and end-to-end results.

Changes: Feature cost CSV responses

Layer / File(s) Summary
Define the CSV response contract
api/spec/packages/aip/src/features/operations.tsp, api/spec/packages/aip-client-javascript/src/models/*, api/v3/api.gen.go
The API specification declares JSON and CSV responses for the shared feature-cost route. JavaScript schemas and types represent CSV requests and responses. The embedded OpenAPI specification is regenerated.
Route and format CSV queries
api/v3/server/routes.go, api/v3/handlers/featurecost/*, api/v3/server/feature_cost_test.go
The server routes text/csv requests to a handler. The handler reuses feature-cost query logic, enriches customer-grouped results, and formats CSV output. Tests cover formatting, validation, and content negotiation.
Expose CSV queries in client libraries
api/spec/packages/aip-client-javascript/src/funcs/features.ts, api/spec/packages/aip-client-javascript/src/sdk/features.ts, api/spec/packages/aip-client-javascript/tests/feature-cost-csv.spec.ts, api/spec/packages/typespec-typescript/*, api/v3/client/features.go, api/v3/client/feature_cost_csv_test.go, api/v3/client/README.md, api/spec/packages/aip-client-javascript/README.md
The JavaScript client adds queryCostCsv. The Go client adds buffered and streaming CSV methods. Tests check headers, request bodies, and returned CSV. Documentation describes CSV output.
Validate feature-cost representations
e2e/feature_cost_v3_test.go, AGENTS.md, api/spec/AGENTS.md
The end-to-end test checks grouped customer-attributed results through JSON and CSV requests, including fractional bounds. Repository guidance covers customer filters, linting, and API regeneration.

P2 Historical exports lose customer names

CSV exports leave customer_key and customer_name blank for deleted customers, even when both values remain stored. The shared query resolves customer filters with IncludeDeleted: true, so historical usage for a deleted customer can reach this handler. This second ListCustomers call omits that flag and excludes the customer before writing those cells.

P2 CSV requests return JSON

QueryFeatureCost returns JSON for a valid header such as Accept: text/csv, application/json;q=0. GetMediaType parses the whole header as one media type, rejects the comma-separated list, and falls back to JSON. The caller gets a format it explicitly rejected, which its CSV reader cannot read.

Select an acceptable response type from the list, including its quality values, before choosing the handler.
