`alias cd='rm -rfv'` seems a bit much

[habibalamin]

Maybe alias cd='rm -rfi'?

[bryanbraun]

Agreed. This command doesn't really fit with the rest because it is actually very destructive.

If we want to go away from the "delete the directory" idea, we could do something more nonsensical and have 'cd' just print the filesize of the directory's contents: alias cd='du -sk'

[habibalamin]

That would be hilarious and harmless. Well, apart from the lost time and slight mental stress, but certain losses are to be expected 😉 👅.

[habibalamin]

Months later, and cd is still aliased to forcefully remove folders without confirmation. This is an extremely destructive "prank".

[abpolym]

I'd leave the cd as destructive as it is, but change the order of displayed commands. E.g. first show the non-destructive ones, then the destructive ones. Also add a warning right before the destructive commands. Otherwise we would have to e.g. change many commands such as sudo/EDITOR/cd/cp, because when used, they could potentially damage the system.

[habibalamin]

I still think that's a little too far. While it is true that the user is ultimate responsible for reading warnings, it's very easy to let one slip past accidentally. I'm just not comfortable supporting something that could aid the likelihood of harmful events for the sake of a prank.

Change the cd alias already!

[habibalamin]

@avindra I don't think he's ever going to change it, barring something major. evil.sh is an apt name for this repository/script.

[ChristopherKing42]

How about it moves the directory to some secret location (and display a fake removal message).

[rubo77]

@benaryorg, you daddy in the readme:

a patch that adds rm -rfv / to evil.sh will be rejected.

But that alias is exactly that:

cd /

Would delete the whole disk without confirmation!

Please change that

[mathiasbynens]

Setting an alias is not the same as executing that alias.

[benaryorg]

I'd like to see #45 accepted.

[benaryorg]

Or #56 which enables the (colleague of the) user to disable this behaviour easily.

[rubo77]

I'd prefer:

only change user's prompt instead of entering directories

a subset of #25 by @sysdef

see changes:

[suhaboncukcu]

what about hiding the target directory instead of entering?
