Brings the color pieces of cozy-ui to twake-mui, each usable alone or together:

  • ColorList, the palette. extraColors draws more colors after COLORS, colors are read as hexadecimal codes (3 or 6 digits, with or without #), and on a touch screen each color hits a 44 px area, 26 px at small, without any change on screen.
  • ColorPickerCustom, any color from a saturation and hue area or its hexadecimal code, then Save or Cancel, with the API of cozy-ui's component (color, onSave, onCancel). It draws with react-colorful, as cozy-ui does, which becomes a dependency.
  • ColorPicker, a ColorList whose custom button opens ColorPickerCustom in its place, then comes back to the list and to that button.

Without the new props, ColorList draws the same.

Walkthrough

ColorList now accepts extra hexadecimal colors, normalizes and deduplicates them against the built-in palette, and adds coarse-pointer hit areas. The new ColorPickerCustom component provides hex input, validation, save and cancel actions, and localized labels. ColorPicker connects the palette to the custom editor and returns focus after the editor closes. The package exports both components and their prop types. Tests and Storybook stories cover the added components and palette behavior.

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: Low · up to 0f403

The new color picker components work as designed. One Storybook story ignores later changes to its color control, which affects documentation only and can be fixed in a follow-up. The PR description still mentions an earlier inline-input design and should be updated to match the implementation.

Explanation

The title names two new components, ColorPicker and ColorPickerCustom, and an extension of ColorList. The changeset adds all three: ColorPicker and ColorPickerCustom components with locales and stories, and extraColors support in ColorList. The title covers the main change, though it omits the touch-target and react-colorful dependency changes, which is acceptable.

Where will it be used? Why not the same UI that the one we have on admin panel?

Normalize selectedColor before palette comparisons.

normalizeHexColor accepts #RGB and expands it to #RRGGBB, but selectedColor is only uppercased. Therefore, valid #abc input does not match the normalized #AABBCC swatch. The swatch is not marked pressed, and uncontrolled custom input can open incorrectly.

Suggested fix
+  const selectedColorForComparison = selectedColor
+    ? normalizeHexColor(selectedColor) ?? selectedColor.toUpperCase()
+    : selectedColor
   // `selectedColor` can be null or empty from a JavaScript caller

+      ? !colors.includes(selectedColorForComparison)
+      : false
   )
...
-  const shownColor = isOpen ? undefined : selectedColor?.toUpperCase()
+  const shownColor = isOpen ? undefined : selectedColorForComparison

@swanndesign25 Can we mutualize the component from the admin panel and the one from mail or not?

Yes we can do that if that ease the implémentation. But we still need to provide list colors to help user choice.

Maybe we can do same that what we did in cozy-ui:

  • ColorList component
  • ColorPickerCustom component (we missed this component during the migration to twake-mui as it is a new one that was not in our "list of component to migrate", sorry)
  • each app can use the first, the second, or assemble both

See https://github.com/linagora/cozy-admin/blob/6e0a9bb32b5dbbf68053f9ff92554937081fb9b2/src/components/Teams/ColorPicker/ColorPickerSelect.jsx and https://docs.cozy.io/cozy-ui/react/#!/Extra/ColorPickerCustom

Or maybe we can also expose a ColorPicker component that assemble both to have a 100% ready made component as Swann said that we can standardize this behavior.

On a touch screen each color takes a 44 px area when the gap has room for it, else the whole pitch.
A selected or extra color with 3 digits or without # matches its #RRGGBB form.
Picks any color on a saturation and hue area or from its hexadecimal code, then saves or cancels,
with the API of cozy-ui's ColorPickerCustom. It draws with react-colorful, as cozy-ui does.
…erCustom

The custom button of the list opens ColorPickerCustom in its place, its field focused; saving or
cancelling comes back to the list and to that button, pressed when the color is not in the list.

Keep the story’s color control effective.

If a user changes the Storybook color control after the story mounts, useState(props.color) retains the earlier value. The wrapper then overrides the new arg, so the control cannot demonstrate another selected color. Remount the wrapper when the arg changes, as the ColorList story does, or synchronize its state with the arg.

Done: ColorList is back to the palette only, and ColorPickerCustom is a separate component with cozy-ui's API (color, onSave, onCancel). ColorPicker assembles both, the custom button of the list opening the custom picker in its place.
