Retro: PR #5 (konflux-ci/devlake)

This is a Renovate/MintMaker bot PR updating an indirect Go dependency (github.com/golang/groupcache). It was open for ~8 months (2025-11-02 to 2026-07-01), autoclosed and reopened 17 times by MintMaker rebasing, never merged, and had zero human interaction.

What happened

1. Renovate opened the PR and immediately flagged that go.sum could not be updated because go get -t ./... fails due to unresolvable mock package references.
2. MintMaker repeatedly rebased and force-pushed, triggering 17 close/reopen cycles.
3. The fullsend review agent ran twice (2026-06-25 and 2026-06-27), both times correctly identifying the go.mod/go.sum mismatch — the same issue Renovate flagged on day one.

5. This second retro was triggered by the final close on 2026-07-01.

Retro: PR #5 — Automated dependency bump with repeated agent waste

PR #5 was a bot-authored dependency bump (github.com/golang/groupcache) opened by MintMaker/Renovate on 2025-11-02. It was never mergeable — Renovate itself flagged on day one that go.sum could not be updated due to unresolvable mock packages. Despite this, the PR was closed and reopened 25 times over 8 months by MintMaker rebasing, with zero human interaction throughout.

The fullsend pipeline dispatched 3 review agent runs and 3 retro agent runs (this being the third retro). The review agent found the same go.mod/go.sum mismatch that Renovate had already reported, producing redundant findings. The retro agent correctly identified the waste each time it ran.

PR #5 in konflux-ci/devlake was a Renovate/MintMaker bot dependency bump updating github.com/golang/groupcache in backend/go.mod. The PR was broken from day one — Renovate flagged that go.sum could not be updated due to unresolvable mock packages. Despite this, the PR was closed and reopened ~30 times over 8+ months (Nov 2025 to Jul 2026) with zero human interaction. It was finally autoclosed on 2026-07-13.

The fullsend pipeline dispatched 4 review runs and 4 retro runs (8 total agent dispatches) on this single broken bot PR. This is the 4th retro. The prior 3 retros (Jun 27, Jul 1, Jul 2) all correctly identified the same waste patterns and mapped them to existing open issues. The review agent exhibited the apache#3005 pattern: it correctly flagged the go.sum mismatch as HIGH severity on two runs, then flipped to LGTM and APPROVED on two subsequent runs without the issue being fixed.

All improvement opportunities are already tracked in fullsend-ai/fullsend with extensive evidence: apache#2401 (retro dedup per PR), apache#4064 (retro circuit breaker), apache#4427 (skip retro for dep update PRs), apache#2461 (skip retro for autoclosed bot PRs), apache#1287 (skip re-review on rebase-only changes), apache#2587/apache#2599 (review dispatch cap), apache#3005 (review agent should not flip findings to LGTM without code changes). Multiple evidence issues already exist for apache#3005 including apache#3711 which documents the identical go.mod/go.sum flip pattern in devlake PR #22. No new proposals are warranted.
