Brings #9271 to the v29 branch so we can stop using a fork and go back to the upstream releases.

@benbrandt nah all good. sorry for keeping it up so long. Not sure yet whether we gonna do a patch release, maintainers are a bit short on resources right now and a full release is scheduled in 2weeks if I'm not mistaken
