Expose packaged Ghost under Omarchy Install → AI with reversible lifecycle #54

Description

@ferdousbhai

Status

Both upstream pull requests are open and current at Ghost 0.4.2 (updated 2026-09-23), awaiting review:

Closes when both merge and the entry installs on a stock Omarchy.

Everything the two pull requests need is rendered or copied from this repo, which is their source of truth:

  • packaging/release/publish.sh writes out/omarchy-ghost-<version> (PKGBUILD, ghost.install, ghost-runtime.install, and .omarchy/package.json with the declarative upstream block that omarchy-pkgs' sync-upstream follows) for pkgbuilds/ghost;
  • packaging/omarchy/ carries omarchy-menu.jsonc and bin/omarchy-install-ai-ghost / bin/omarchy-remove-ai-ghost, which travel upstream verbatim — packaging/omarchy/test-contribution.sh is the check.

Goal

Ghost as an optional desktop application under Omarchy's Install → AI and Remove → AI, exactly the way Omarchy installs Voxtype, Ollama, or LM Studio.

Install

  • install.ai.ghost: icon, label, omarchy-pkg-present ghost check, visible presentation terminal.
  • The installer runs omarchy-pkg-add ghost, enables and starts ghostd.service, links /usr/share/ghost/plugin into ~/.config/omarchy/plugins/ferdousbhai.ghost (with ln -sfnT, so an older real directory is refused rather than linked inside), rescans, and enables the plugin in the running shell. The HUD is an omarchy-shell plugin, not its own process or unit — there is no ghost-shell.service.
  • Nothing owner-level is required first: providers, Voxtype, and local runners are the owner's own installs, reported truthfully when absent.
  • Do not edit ~/.config/hypr, ~/.config/omarchy, or the live bar beyond that one plugin symlink; the desktop entry and the documented keybinding snippet remain the integration boundary.

Remove

  • remove.ai.ghost is labelled Ghost UI: it removes the HUD plugin and the ghost package while keeping ghost-runtime installed and explicit, for apps that bring their own UI.
  • It preserves ~/ghosts, ~/.config/ghost, ~/.local/state/ghost, browser profiles, and the owner's documents. Deleting state is a separate confirmed action, never part of removal.

Distribution boundary

Package ghost (and ghost-runtime) from the Omarchy package repository, built from the vX.Y.Z GitHub release on ferdousbhai/ghost (source archive, runtime archive, SHA256SUMS) that the contribution's upstream metadata follows. No AUR path, no mise wrapper.

Since v0.4.0 the release also publishes a signed [ghost] pacman repository, which curl -fsSL https://summonghost.com/install | bash adds and installs from. That is the interim path, and the reason this issue is still open: it exists only until Omarchy's repository carries the package, and it is not the shape Omarchy consumes.
