Design proposal

Proposal: proposals/blocks-field-redesign.md

Try the interactive mockup: open blocks, add and delete them, and follow the numbered notes. The toolbar switches between the two sample pages, the rejected layouts, dark mode, right-to-left and a phone frame.

A redesign of the admin's blocks field in three parts, with no schema or API change, shipped as three stacked implementation pull requests:

  1. Block list: closed rows with summaries, add a block anywhere, a menu per block, and Undo.
  2. Fields inside a block: content first with the headline as a heading, settings as compact rows, hints taken from labels, and checks before autosave.
  3. Lists inside blocks: type-in lists, compact tables and expandable items.

Discussion: none. On-page editing of blocks (#3800) is related but outside this plan.
