Summary

dashwallet-ios has no agreed place for its decisions. This PR adds a single, sequentially numbered decision log under docs/adr/, a short guide to the docs folder, an architecture section, two PR template items, and two rules in CLAUDE.md. The rules themselves are in ADR-0001: the significance threshold, the publicity rule, how ADRs are accepted and superseded, and how feature ADRs are promoted. ADR-0002 fixes where the log lives. A one-page summary is in docs/features/docs-and-adr-layout/README.md.

This PR is also the request for agreement on the rule. @llbartekll @jeanpierreroma, please review ADR-0001 in particular. If you do not agree to a mandatory ADR rule, ADR-0001 is changed in this PR before approval, so the ADR item becomes optional. The publicity item stays, because the repository is public.

Before merge

ADR-0001 and ADR-0002 are Proposed. After a Reviewer who is not the author approves, their Status lines and index rows change to Accepted as the last commit. That is a status-only change (ADR-0001 rule 3).

What changed

  • docs/adr/: the index, ADR-0001 (the ADR rules) and ADR-0002 (where the log lives)
  • docs/README.md: what is required, what is optional, the layout and the publicity rule
  • docs/architecture/README.md: the home for living architecture docs
  • docs/features/docs-and-adr-layout/README.md: the feature summary
  • .github/PULL_REQUEST_TEMPLATE.md: the ADR item (keep the answer that applies) and the publicity item
  • CLAUDE.md: AI agents read Accepted ADRs, never silently contradict one, and keep their drafts Proposed. They also follow the publicity rule

The publicity rule covers everything published through the repository: every committed file, commit messages, branch names, and the text and attachments of PRs and issues.

Verification

  • Every relative link in the changed files resolves. The PR template uses absolute blob/develop URLs, which resolve after merge.
  • No secrets (gitleaks clean), customer data, ticket ids or local paths.
  • The three ADR-item answers in the PR template match ADR-0001 rule 1 word for word.

Operational notes

  • Migration: none. Feature flag: none. No app code.
  • Rollback: revert the PR.

PR checklist

  • ADR (ADR-0001), keep the answer that applies: ADR-NNNN added (ADR-0001, ADR-0002)
  • Nothing in this PR (files, commit messages, description, comments, attachments) holds customer data, unfixed vulnerability detail, secrets, or step-by-step attack detail against keys, PIN or encryption

Final review — Phase 1 only (trivial change)

Verified the documentation-only diff and supplied findings at head 6e9f974. No blocking issues were confirmed; two non-blocking documentation/process findings remain, with the pending-index observation consolidated into the merge-gate finding. Current CI checks, including DashWalletTests on simulator, pass; no local builds or tests were run.

In `docs/features/dashwallet-ios-docs/changelog.md`:
- [SUGGESTION] docs/features/dashwallet-ios-docs/changelog.md:32-34: Engage the declared draft gate until ADR promotion is complete
These lines and the PR banner say the PR stays a draft until T6, but current PR metadata reports isDraft: false at the reviewed head. T6 is still blocked, docs/adr/README.md has no entries, and its four ADR-0001 links target a file that does not yet exist. The index itself also gives no indication that its governing document is pending promotion. Restore the declared draft gate while awaiting human review, then complete T6 before making the PR merge-ready so the new documentation does not land with an empty log and unresolved governing links.

In `docs/features/dashwallet-ios-docs/_review/review-2026-11-03.md`:
- [NITPICK] docs/features/dashwallet-ios-docs/_review/review-2026-11-03.md:7-8: Identify review commit ranges as unpublished pre-squash history
The review records cite intermediate commits such as 0ebc4392e and e45f496a8 that cannot be resolved in this checkout; the same applies to the other intermediate SHAs checked across all three records. The PR description explains that this history was squashed before publication, but the committed review records do not carry that explanation. Add a scope note identifying these ranges as unpublished pre-squash history and pointing readers to the published bootstrap diff. Preserve the historical ranges as context rather than implying the old review rounds examined the final squashed tree.

Establish docs/ as the home for decisions and architecture docs:

- docs/adr/: the decision log index, ADR-0001 (the ADR rules) and
ADR-0002 (where the log lives), both Proposed until approved.
- docs/README.md: what is required, what is optional, the layout and
  the publicity rule.
- docs/architecture/README.md: the architecture section stub.
- docs/features/docs-and-adr-layout/README.md: the feature summary.
- PR template: the ADR item and the publicity item.
- CLAUDE.md: the Architecture decisions and Publicity rules for agents.

Re-review — Final review — Phase 1 only (trivial change)

Verified the documentation-only diff at 96455d8: both ADRs exist with matching Proposed index entries, and all 21 relative Markdown links resolve. Neither new finding warrants a review comment: GitHub explicitly supports deleting sensitive edit-history revisions, and the feature summary accurately describes its current review state. Both prior findings are addressed or obsolete, and all currently reported CI checks pass.

Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (1)

These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.

  • Local secret-scan hook references a nonexistent CI backstop — The unchanged .githooks/pre-commit tells contributors that .github/workflows/gitleaks.yml provides a non-bypassable CI backstop and allows commits when gitleaks is unavailable. That workflow does not exist at either the base or reviewed head, and no current workflow references gitleaks or secret scanning. This is a concrete pre-existing false assurance; the new ADR accurately describes the hook as enabled per clone and does not introduce the claim.
    • Follow-up: Track separately: restore the advertised CI scanner or correct the hook's comments and warning to describe local-only scanning.

…scope the enforcement note

Closes the CodeRabbit review of 96455d8:
- PR template: the publicity checkbox now names the branch name and linked issues, matching ADR-0001 rule 2
- docs-and-adr-layout README: the enforcement note names the opt-in gitleaks pre-commit hook

Re-review — Final review — Phase 1 only (trivial change)

Static verification at e2b70ac confirms that both ADRs and their index entries exist, all 21 relative links in the changed files resolve, and the two prior findings no longer apply. One non-blocking wording gap remains in the agent-facing publicity rule. The simulator test check remains pending; the other reported checks pass, and this diff changes documentation only.

In `CLAUDE.md`:
- [NITPICK] CLAUDE.md:126: Agent-facing Publicity rule omits branch names, which ADR-0001 rule 2 prohibits
ADR-0001 rule 2 explicitly covers branch names, and the new PR-template declaration includes that surface. The publicity summary in CLAUDE.md enumerates files, commit messages, PRs, issues and attachments but leaves out branch names. This does not override the referenced ADR, but it makes the agent-facing instruction less complete than the rule it summarizes. Add branch names to align the two.

Minor · Security & Privacy · Quick win

Qualify the "never edited" lifecycle statements with the required redaction exception.

Four repeated summaries state that an Accepted ADR can change only by status. ADR-0001 rule 2 requires a redaction in an Accepted ADR when the publicity rule applies. Rule 3 names that exception. A contributor who reads only a summary can conclude that a required redaction is forbidden. The redaction can then be delayed or skipped.

Add the exception to each summary, so every copy matches ADR-0001 rule 3.

Read the whole PR at 4e05300: every relative link resolves, the three ADR-item answers match rule 1 word for word, and the bot threads are all resolved. The rules themselves read well and the "not needed" list (N1–N4) is the part that will actually get used day to day, so good that it is explicit.

One theme in the inline comments, all non-blocking: how the log gets read, not how it gets written. CLAUDE.md tells an agent to read "the Accepted ADRs for the area" on every change, but the index only has # | Title | Status | Superseded by, so there is nothing to filter on. At 2 entries that is fine; with rule 4 promoting every feature ADR the log will grow faster than a threshold-only one (ADR-0001 says so itself), and the literal reading of the CLAUDE.md rule becomes "open the whole log at the start of every session". Three small changes keep the per-session cost at one small table:

  1. an Area column in the index with a short controlled vocabulary;
  2. the CLAUDE.md rule phrased as "read the index, open only the ADRs whose Area matches what you touch";
  3. rule 5 asking Decision outcome to open with one sentence **Chosen:** … (ADR-0001 already does) so the index row, or a quick grep, carries the decision without opening the file.

None of this changes the decision in ADR-0001 or ADR-0002, so it fits in this PR before the status flip. Leaving the verdict as a comment for now: the approval here doubles as agreement to a mandatory ADR rule, and that is Bartek's call, not the reviewer tooling's.

Approving at 4e05300. This counts as agreement to the mandatory ADR rule in ADR-0001 and to the publicity rule. The three inline suggestions from my earlier comment (Area column in the index, two-step wording of the CLAUDE.md rule, a leading **Chosen:** sentence in rule 5) stay non-blocking: take them here before the status flip if you want, or in a follow-up. Per rule 3 the Accepted status change is yours as the last commit.

…ence

Closes the round-9 review of #1308:
- the decision log index gains an Area column with a fixed list under it
- CLAUDE.md reads the index first and opens only the ADRs whose Area matches
- ADR-0001 rule 5 asks Decision outcome to open with one Chosen sentence

Add the redaction exception to every ADR lifecycle summary.

The ADR-0002 row, the docs/README.md row, and the feature summary state that an Accepted ADR changes only through its status line or never changes. ADR-0001 rule 3 also allows a redaction that rule 2 requires, even in an Accepted ADR. Add that exception to each summary so readers do not treat a required redaction as forbidden.

Fixed in 6acde01. The ADR-0002 row, the docs/README.md row, the index Superseding note and the docs-layout summary now name the redaction that the publicity rule requires (ADR-0001 rule 2) next to the status-line change.

@romchornyi Thanks for the update. The changes you describe address the finding: all four summaries now include the required redaction exception alongside the status-line rule.

Re-review — Final review — Phase 1 only (trivial change)

Verified the docs-only diff at ebff2c4: all 21 relative links resolve, and all four prior findings are fixed or no longer applicable. One non-blocking inconsistency remains: lifecycle summaries omit the explicitly permitted publicity redaction exception. Current GitHub checks, including DashWalletTests on simulator, pass; no local builds or tests were run.

In `docs/adr/0002-keep-the-decision-log-in-docs-adr.md`:
- [NITPICK] docs/adr/0002-keep-the-decision-log-in-docs-adr.md:31: Include the publicity-redaction exception in ADR lifecycle summaries
ADR-0001 rule 2 explicitly permits required redactions even in Accepted ADRs, and rule 3 lists that exception alongside status-line changes. This table instead says an existing ADR changes only its status line. The same omission appears in docs/README.md:32, docs/adr/README.md:31–33, and docs/features/docs-and-adr-layout/README.md:31. Include the redaction exception in these summaries so their absolute wording does not discourage required removal of prohibited content. This is non-blocking because the governing ADR explicitly establishes the exception and the index and guide defer to it.
Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (1)

These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.

  • The existing secret-scan hook claims a nonexistent CI backstop — The pre-existing .githooks/pre-commit says that .github/workflows/gitleaks.yml provides a non-bypassable backstop and that CI will check when local gitleaks is unavailable. That workflow is absent. The hook already contains these claims at the PR base; this PR's new documentation correctly describes per-clone scanning and reviewer enforcement, so this does not affect its verdict.
    • Follow-up: Track a separate maintainer change to correct the hook's assurance or provide the stated CI backstop.

Fixed in 6acde01, together with the same CodeRabbit thread: all four lifecycle summaries (ADR-0002, docs/README.md, docs/adr/README.md, the docs-layout summary) now name the rule 2 redaction exception.

Resolved (re-reviewed at 90285b88): Verified your fix at the current head: ADR-0002, the docs guide, the ADR index and the feature summary all explicitly allow publicity-required redactions. The omission identified in this finding is resolved.
