Gesture: Move Thought Up (↑↓↑) usually recognized as a sequence with no command #5996
Observed on iPhone (PWA, iOS 18.7, 393x852) on version 351.2.0 (5aeaecc).
Steps to Reproduce
- a
- b
- c
Set the cursor on c.
Swipe Move Thought Up (↑↓↑) ten times in a row at a natural speed, without slowing down to draw each segment precisely.
Current Behavior
Most attempts do nothing. The swipe is recognized as a sequence with no command, so no command runs and c stays where it is. In the debug log, 1 of 11 consecutive attempts moved the thought:

Every failure is the intended ↑↓↑ with one or two short horizontal segments added, at a turnaround (↑←↓, ↓←↓, ↑→↓) or at the end (↑→).
Expected Behavior
In this case
Each of the ten swipes should run Move Thought Up, leaving c above b after the first.
In general
Sloppy swipes. A swipe whose recognized sequence matches no command, and which is a command's gesture with short incidental segments added, should run that command.
No new false positives. Every sequence that already matches a command should still run that command. A swipe should only be reinterpreted when its literal sequence matches nothing.
Notes
The sequences above match no command, so there is leeway to reinterpret them without taking anything away from another gesture.
Gesture aliases were the earlier approach to this, with several concrete sequences listed per command. The preference is to widen how swipes are interpreted as they are recognized, rather than adding more concrete sequences for the same command.
Debug Log
Gesture entries 1404083 to 1404185 in the reporter's log (07:51:30 to 07:51:40) show the eleven attempts above, with their swipe segments and timings.
