Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Currently, the permanent link of a project and organisation (called slug) is generated automatically from the title and can not be updated afterwards. When a title already exists, we append a number. Also, the user might change the title or maybe the title is very long, and the user would prefer to have a shorter URL.
This matters especially when the user wants to share the URL for instance on social media, on posters or press releases and also applies to the share to social feature we offer in the application.
Describe the solution you'd like
Allow the user to edit the permanent link of a project or organisation.
Similar to WordPress (see below) we could display the permanent link below the title on the edit form.
The system needs to check directly if the new URL slug is unique (e.g. via API call) and if it is not unique:
- either show an error (e.g. "This permanent link is already taken, please try a different one!") and let user pick a different name
- or use the same logic as on create and automatically append a number to make it unique. The user needs to see this, so the user has chance to change it to something else
Ideally the platform keeps track of previously used slugs and redirects to the current one. That also mean it can never be re-used, which also prevents that all of a sudden people following an old link of project A land on the page of project B. When new projects and organisations are created it would also have to check for these old URL slugs.
