Card Game – IDATT2003

This project is a small Java application developed as part of the IDATT2003 course assignment. The goal is to practice functional programming concepts, JavaFX GUI development, streams, lambdas, unit testing, and version control with Git.

Project Description

The application simulates a simple card game using a standard deck of 52 playing cards. A player can be dealt a hand of cards, and the program can analyze the hand for certain conditions.

The project includes:

  • A deck of cards containing 52 cards
  • The ability to deal a random hand of cards
  • A GUI built with JavaFX
  • Analysis of the dealt hand using Java Streams

Features

  • Create a full deck of 52 cards

  • Deal a hand of random cards

  • Display the dealt hand

  • Analyze the hand:

    • Calculate the sum of card values
    • Show all Hearts in the hand
    • Check if the Queen of Spades is present
    • Check for a 5-card flush (five cards of the same suit)

Running the Application

Make sure you have JDK 25 and Maven 3.14.1 installed.

Run the application with:

mvn javafx:run

Testing

Run the unit tests with:

mvn test
