📁 Common file types you may see

When you download from GitHub Releases, you may see:

  • .exe files: double-click to run on Windows
  • .msi files: Windows installer files
  • .zip files: extract first, then open the app
  • .rar files: use a file extractor before opening
  • .txt or .md files: read these for setup steps or notes

If a file has a setup guide, follow that guide first.

✅ Before you install

Check these simple points:

  • Use a Windows PC
  • Have enough free space for the download
  • Keep a browser open while you install
  • Use the latest release when possible
  • Read the file name so you know what you are opening

If you use work or school access, you may need permission to run new software.

⚙️ Basic setup flow

For most releases, the process is:

  1. Visit the release page.
  2. Download the file from the latest release.
  3. Save it to your Downloads folder.
  4. Open the file or extract the ZIP archive.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps.
  6. Start the app or read the included instructions.
  7. Return to the README if you want to explore more tools in the list.

🔍 What to look for in each entry

A useful entry often includes:

  • Tool name
  • Short description
  • Main use case
  • Link to the source
  • Install or use notes
  • Tags or categories

This makes it easier to know whether the tool fits your needs before you spend time on it.
