Request new dataset: Google Cloud Platform (GCP) IP Ranges #217

Open

Description

@aditisingh02

Explain the dataset you want to add and how it would contribute to the Internet Yellow Pages

Google Cloud publishes a JSON-formatted list of all customer-usable global and regional external IP address ranges. This dataset enables identifying which IP prefixes are allocated to Google Cloud services and their geographic regions. It would complement the existing AWS IP Ranges crawler (amazon.aws_ip_ranges), extending IYP's coverage of major cloud provider infrastructure for security research, network analysis, and cross-cloud comparison.

Provide the name of the organization providing the data and the url to the dataset

If possible describe how you would like to model the dataset in the Yellow Pages

What is the label/type of the nodes used by this dataset?

  • GeoPrefix (with additional Prefix label) - for IP prefixes with geographic context
  • Tag - for service categorization (e.g., "Google Cloud")
  • Country - for geographic country references

What is the label/type of the links for this dataset?

  • CATEGORIZED - links GeoPrefix to Tag (service type)
  • COUNTRY - links GeoPrefix to Country (derived from region mapping)

If possible give the cypher description of the links that are desired:

(:GeoPrefix:Prefix {prefix:'34.1.208.0/20'})-[:CATEGORIZED]->(:Tag {label:'Google Cloud'})
(:GeoPrefix:Prefix {prefix:'34.1.208.0/20'})-[:COUNTRY]->(:Country {country_code:'ZA'})

This follows the same modeling pattern as the existing AWS IP ranges crawler for consistency. I have a working implementation ready to submit as a PR once approved!

Proposed Graph Representation

(:GeoPrefix:Prefix {prefix:'34.1.208.0/20'})-[:CATEGORIZED]->(:Tag {label:'Google Cloud'})
(:GeoPrefix:Prefix {prefix:'34.1.208.0/20'})-[:COUNTRY]->(:Country {country_code:'ZA'})
  • GeoPrefix nodes (with additional Prefix label) for IP prefixes
  • CATEGORIZED relationship to Tag nodes for service categorization
  • COUNTRY relationship derived from GCP region-to-country mapping (e.g., africa-south1 → ZA)

Use Cases

  1. Security Research: Identify IP ranges belonging to Google Cloud infrastructure
  2. Cloud Provider Analysis: Map GCP's global infrastructure presence
  3. Cross-Cloud Comparison: Compare with AWS IP ranges data already in IYP
  4. Geographic Distribution: Analyze cloud provider coverage by country

Implementation Notes

I have a working implementation ready that:

  • Fetches data from the official GCP IP ranges JSON endpoint
  • Maps 40+ GCP regions to ISO country codes
  • Creates GeoPrefix, Tag, and Country nodes with appropriate relationships
  • Follows existing IYP crawler patterns (similar to amazon.aws_ip_ranges)

Happy to submit a PR if this dataset addition is approved!

    Hi @m-appel, could you please go through this and assign it to me if it looks good?

    Hi, please do not ping us, we receive notifications for all issues and address them once we have time :)
    That being said, sure you can go ahead, I wonder where we get the region->country mapping from this time?
