I installed NetworkManager in a PC that's in a windows domain, the user is not part of Administrator group.
I saw a mention in the docs here
All actions on this tab require the application to be running with administrator privileges. If the app is not elevated, a banner is shown at the bottom with a Restart as Administrator button.
I added the user to the group "Network Configuration Operators" and launched the app again (after rebooting). Still I can't apply the changes and I don't see any warning about the permissions issue.
When the user want's to edit the network settings it can but needs to input the UAC credentials (his own)
Steps to reproduce the issue:
Add user to "Network Configuration Operators"
Try to apply a profile in networkmanager
Apply is disabled.
NETworkManager version: 2026.7.7.0 Windows version (like 10.0.x.x): Windows 11 · 25H2 .NET version (like 6.0.x): 10.0.12
Screenshots
I would like one of the following:
Networkmanager to have the warning as told in the docs
Have the details to allow for non-admin users to use the program (if possible)
thanks for the report! Membership in Network Configuration Operators was initially not considered — NETworkManager only checked for the Administrators group. This is now implemented in #3608:
Members of Network Configuration Operators can now apply network configurations (IP address, DNS servers, release/renew). NETworkManager still needs to run elevated — use Restart as administrator and confirm with your own credentials, no admin account required.
The missing hint is now shown as tooltip on the disabled Apply in the profile context menu.
Errors (e.g. missing permissions) are now shown instead of being silently ignored.
It is included in the next pre-release. I will release it as soon as the CI is done...
Could you test it in your domain environment and let me know if everything works as expected?
