Color theme and preview pane not rendering after upgrade to yazi 26.1.4

Hi folks,

I upgraded to yazi 26.1.4 yesterday and noticed a couple of issues that started occurring immediately after the upgrade:

1. Neither the configured color theme is being applied, nor are file contents rendered in the third (preview) pane.
2. I’ve reproduced this behaviour in both the latest WezTerm and Ghostty, so it doesn’t appear to be terminal-specific.
3. Running yazi --debug shows that the nightfly color theme (for both light and dark modes) is being correctly detected and picked up from my config.
4. My Yazi configuration was not changed as part of the upgrade. It can be found here:

5. Other configuration changes do take effect. For example, changing
   ratio = [1, 3, 2] to ratio = [5, 3, 2] works as expected. This suggests that the config is being loaded correctly, and the issue seems isolated to color theme loading and preview/file content rendering.

It’s entirely possible I’ve missed a breaking change or a new requirement in this release. If anyone has run into something similar, or can advise on what to check next, I’d really appreciate the guidance.

To pay it forward, for others who may need to make similar changes, here is the main diff to my yazi.toml and the following diffs to my various yazi flavors.

There was a lot of manual deprecated config removed in the yazi.toml to minimise future such issues.

Glad to see it's working now!

I noticed most of the entries in your yazi.toml are default presets - you can remove those and only keep the parts that need changing. That lets Yazi fall back to the default configuration and reduces the surface affected by any future version updates.

Also, I'd suggest using prepend_* for config mixing instead of fully overriding the defaults, that way, if the defaults change in future releases you won't need to keep them in sync with your own yazi.toml.

Thanks for the guidance @sxyazi (also thank you for making yazi, it's great)! I've consolidated my config significantly to only override defaults, per your recommendation.

Two quick questions:

1. Configuration mixing for [opener]: The mixing documentation mentions prepend_*/append_* works for open, icon, previewer, and preloader rules. Just to clarify—does this also apply to [opener] sections? Or if I define [opener.play], does it replace the entire default array?

2. Placeholder syntax: I'm currently using "$@" syntax in my config (e.g., { run = 'open -a VLC "$@"', ... }), which is working fine on v26.1.4. However, I notice both the shipped branch and main branch now use %s syntax instead. Is "$@" still the correct syntax, or should I migrate to %s? Are both supported for backward compatibility?
