Hi, I'm h-east. You probably rely on Vim, directly or not: it ships with virtually every Linux, macOS, and BSD system and is used by millions of developers every day. I've spent years deep in Vim's internals — fixing bugs, improving performance, and adding features — I review the issues and pull requests people submit, and I translate the Vim documentation into Japanese, which supports the entire Japanese-speaking Vim community. For the past several years I've handled essentially all of this translation single-handedly — and still keep it within two weeks of upstream changes (two reviewers check the work).

Maintaining a tool this widely used is ongoing, unglamorous work: reproducing crashes, chasing compiler and portability issues, triaging reports, reviewing contributions, and keeping decades of behavior stable. I love doing it, and I want to keep doing more of it.
