page is reset after time away

if i select a bunch of pairs and navigate away to a different tab for x time and come back, everything has been reset to the starting point.

What did you do while you navigated away? If HA was changed it could explain why the page would be reloaded.

just to make sure i setup a merge history tab again with a pair, opened a new tab and set a 5 minute timer. went back and the pair was gone.

Thanks for testing, that 5 minute timer pinpointed it. When a browser tab has been in the background for 5 minutes, Home Assistant removes the panel to save resources and builds a fresh one when you come back, and the panel came back empty.

This is fixed in v1.4.0: the panel now keeps your pairs, options and results while the page stays open, and an import still running at that point carries on and shows its results when you come back. The same goes for switching to another page in Home Assistant and back.

Until you update, you can avoid it by turning off Suspend background connections in your profile (click your user name at the bottom of the sidebar, then the browser settings). Older Home Assistant versions call it Automatically close connection.
