reading party feature

Morning everyone, I am working on a new feature on my fork of foliate, in the branch reading-party, to build a new set of functionalities which would allow reading parties. the idea is that you can share progress of the books you are reading with your friends, notes, highlights and maybe carry an entire conversation in the ebook reader app. I would appreciate any suggestions, or anyone to guide me to develop such thing in a way that maybe in the future could be integrated with the official foliate app. What are the best practices for this projects, how to contribute? I don't want carry those efforts just for their own sake or for myself, I want to be useful and contribute in a meaningful way. Thank you:)
