Navigate backward and forward through visited pages

Problem

After following links, search results, or moving between pages in different sections and notebooks, there is no direct way to return to pages viewed earlier. Users must manually find the previous page again.

Expected behavior

• Back returns to the previously visited page and Forward returns to the next visited page.
• History works across all currently open notebooks and navigation sources, including page lists, search results, and internal OneNote links.
• Alt+Left and Alt+Right provide the standard OneNote keyboard shortcuts.
• Conventional mouse Back and Forward buttons invoke the same commands.
• Commands are unavailable when there is no valid destination.
• Visiting a new page after going Back discards the old Forward path.
• Repeated activation of the current page does not add duplicate entries.
• Removed pages and closed notebooks are skipped safely, and history never reopens a notebook that the user closed.
• Rapid navigation must keep the selected notebook, selected page, header, and rendered content consistent.

Page history is session navigation state. Restoring the last active page after restart remains a separate workspace feature.

Implemented on feature/33-page-history in signed commit 14ee0f3.

The implementation adds a bounded, session-only history keyed by stable source, section, and page identifiers. It supports Alt+Left / Alt+Right, conventional mouse Back / Forward buttons, and Back / Forward commands in the application menu. Normal navigation records visits; history traversal reuses the existing page activation and stale-render cancellation path without creating duplicate history entries. Closing or reloading notebooks prunes invalid destinations and never reopens a closed notebook.

Regression coverage includes traversal, forward-branch truncation, duplicate suppression, capacity eviction, provisional startup replacement, and stale-source pruning. The full local test suite, GTK tests, Clippy, license audit, and clean-start GUI smoke test pass.

GitHub Actions run 31306333590 completed successfully for the native test gate, Flatpak, and AppImage. The issue remains open pending manual interaction testing.

Follow-up input compatibility fix implemented on the existing branch in signed commit 04d7cb9.

The viewer now uses one non-invasive any-button gesture and recognizes both conventional side/extra button identifiers (8/9) and Linux semantic back/forward identifiers (11/10). Standard Back and Forward key events are also registered alongside Alt+Left and Alt+Right. All inputs continue to activate the same history actions, while unrelated mouse buttons are explicitly rejected.

The classifier has regression coverage for every supported identifier and representative unrelated buttons. The full local workspace suite, GTK/Xvfb tests, Clippy with warnings denied, license audit, and fatal-warning GUI smoke test pass. GitHub Actions run 31316389357 also completed successfully for the native test gate, Flatpak, and AppImage. The issue remains open for manual hardware verification.

Manual testing exposed a release-blocking regression in the first mouse compatibility follow-up: its window-level gesture intercepted ordinary pointer input. Commit 04d7cb9 has been explicitly reverted by f311ab6. Replacement commit 0c2be95 uses an isolated raw button-event adapter that passes unrelated events through unchanged, recognizes conventional and Linux semantic Back/Forward buttons, and assigns safe initial keyboard focus to notebook navigation. The regression suite now injects real X11 clicks to verify that a normal GtkButton remains clickable while history buttons activate the expected direction. GitHub Actions run 31318741537 passed the native, Flatpak, and AppImage jobs. The issue remains open for manual hardware verification.

Manual Flatpak verification has now completed successfully, including ordinary mouse interaction and Back/Forward navigation. PR #34 contains the reviewed implementation and closes this issue when merged.
