@osoml Thank you for this suggestion! Some recent changes affect the way that the source of a work appears in an ORCID record, and we can see how users might want more control over this process when a DOI record contains the user's ORCID. We’ve logged your feedback for consideration in future enhancements to ORCID integration and will watch this thread for further discussion. Feel free to provide additional context and related suggestions here. |

Uh oh!

What is the problem that your suggestion solves?
At the moment is not possible to to reinitiate the process of the ORCID Auto-Update feature. For example, when the metadata of a work published on Zenodo is automatically pushed into an ORCID record, it is not possible to redo this if perhaps an error occured or one deleted the work from the ORCID record (by mistake or on purpose). The work may be added again manually or using the Search & Link feature with DataCite Commons, however this results in a different source being given (as in this examplary case, when only the ORCID Auto-Update results in the source given as DataCite and as trusted with the green checkmark).
What solution might meet your needs?
Allow for users to manually reinitiate the process of the ORCID Auto-Update feature, or comparable.

What alternatives have you tried or considered?
Adding works again with the Search & Link feature with DataCite Commons, with the shortcomings as described above.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
In my honest opinion, the actual solution is to make the process of works being added and adding works to ORCID more simple and consistent, thereby more transparent and user-friendly. For example, currently there is a difference in the sources when a work published on Zenodo is added by the ORCID Auto-Update feature (giving DataCite as the source with the green trusted-source checkmark) and when the same work is added using the Search & Link feature with DataCite Commons (which gives the source as User via DataCite and as not trusted). To the user, this seems illogical as the data came from the same source, regardless of actual technical differences in the backend processes.
Such a change would certainly require working on this together with ORCID, but would enhance the usability of both DataCite (Commons) and ORCID for end users.
What group(s) would benefit from your suggestion?
If other group(s), please describe.
