HostShield is a local-first DNS firewall for Android. No account, no telemetry. The no-root VPN path is the first-class citizen here, root mode exists as an accelerator for power users, not a requirement.

The last two releases were a long bug hunt through the unglamorous middle of the app. A packet-loop stall. Schedules that skipped overnight windows. The widget toggle that didn't reliably toggle. WebDAV listings that always parsed empty. Live-query stats that had quietly died. Destructive actions confirming badly, theme contrast, back handling. The release notes carry the full list. None of it is a headline feature, and all of it together is why the app feels different to use now than it did a few versions ago.

One principle worth stating in public: encrypted DNS and the security-sensitive paths fail closed. If a secure path can't be established, HostShield blocks rather than silently downgrading to something weaker. If that ever appears not to hold on your device, that is the most serious bug report you can file here, and I want it immediately.
