Rate limits - exceeding your quota for an API service openAI - any unpaid alternatives?

While trying to execute the agent with the suggested code:

python ai_lab_repo.py --api-key "my-key" --llm-backend "o1-mini" --research-topic "YOUR RESEARCH IDEA"

I got the following error:

Does this Agent work with Current tier Free openAI Rate limits API? If not, is there other unpaid open source alternatives?

DeepSeek will be your best bet for nearly-unpaid.

I have spent $200 in Claude tokens in the same amount of usage that it has taken me to use 49 cents on DeepSeek.

It's worth spending one dollar on DeepSeek and trying it out.

Fully unpaid alternatives will be probably be less helpful to you at the moment I fear, outside of specially-trained small models maybe... This would definitely be an insane amount of work for probably worse of a result than a few pennies worth of usage. DeepSeek changed everything for me.
