About

This Multilingual Children's Toolkit is for helping
families and educators support multilingual children in their language learning
journey. Multilingual children are becoming more and more common across the
world but despite this there are still myths surrounding multilingual children and as a result
the community supporting them can feel overwhelmed. This toolkit provides key terms and helpful resources
to support your child's learning and is specifically aimed at
helping caregivers find the support they need for their child.

Multilingual children:

Multi and Bilingual children learn new vocabulary and develop their language skills at the same pace
as monolingual children, their vocabulary is simply spread out among their languages. It is important
to note that kids will learn more of the language they are most exposed to. If caregivers wish to
support their childs home language, time needs to be dedicated to using the home language. Whether
they are simultaneous or sequential learners, they will flourish when given support from their
community. Use this toolkit to help you find resources and support for helping your child. And feel
free to share this page with your community so they can learn about multilingualism and what
common behaviors to expect from a multilingual child.
