Auditor Role: Principal Cybersecurity Architect & Senior Distributed Systems Engineer
Scope: ETHENENGINE Multi-Tenant Business Operating System
Audit Date: August 2026
Status: Hardening & Verification Active
ETHENENGINE is an enterprise-grade, multi-tenant platform incorporating no-code visual website design, headless CMS, inventory logistics, CRM, ERP, accounting ledger, and OIDC/JWT identity engines.
Because the platform processes tenant data, financial transactions, and client-facing web assets simultaneously, defense-in-depth is essential. This document tracks identified threat vectors, potential loopholes/slippages, implemented defensive countermeasures, and automated security test coverage.
| Threat Vector / CWE | Attack Scenario / Slippage | Risk Level | Countermeasure Architecture |
|---|---|---|---|
| CWE-284: Cross-Tenant IDOR & Data Leakage | Attacker crafts API requests using another tenant's ID in headers or query params (x-tenant-id, /api/cms/entries?tenant=competitor) to access isolated data. |
CRITICAL | Strict tenant context resolution in middleware + zero-knowledge PBKDF2 AES-256-GCM field cryptographic isolation. Any cross-tenant decryption attempt throws an auth tag mismatch exception. |
| CWE-79: Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) | Malicious payloads injected via block settings, CMS rich-text fields, or SVG image uploads executed in admin or public preview pages. | HIGH | Strict HTML entity escaping via escapeHtml() in Sanitizer.ts, CSP (Content Security Policy) headers, and XSS sanitization filters in RuntimeValidator.ts. |
| CWE-306: Authentication & Token Bypass | Attacker uses forged, tampered, expired, or revoked JWT tokens, or manipulates session_state parameters to bypass /admin or /editor routes. |
HIGH | Cryptographic JWT verification with tenant-scoped claims (userId, tenantId, roles), instant revocation token denylist, and strict cookie/bearer extraction. |
| CWE-1321: Prototype Pollution & Payload Injection | Attacker submits JSON payload with __proto__, constructor, or prototype keys attempting to hijack Object properties and crash Bun/V8 engine. |
HIGH | Pre-parsing stream inspection in RuntimeValidator.ts intercepting malicious payload structure before JSON serialization. |
| CWE-307: Credential Stuffing & DoS / Rate Limit Exhaustion | Automated brute-force attacks on /api/auth/login and memory exhaustion via unbounded payload sizes. |
MEDIUM | In-memory token bucket rate limiting middleware per IP/Tenant + strict payload size limits. |
| CWE-1021: Clickjacking & Missing Security Headers | Malicious third-party sites embedding the admin dashboard inside <iframe> tags to steal session credentials or trigger state mutations. |
MEDIUM | Comprehensive security headers: X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN, X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff, Referrer-Policy: strict-origin-when-cross-origin, Content-Security-Policy. |
| CWE-863: Privilege Escalation (RBAC) | A tenant user with viewer role attempting mutations on /api/cms/content-types or financial ledger transactions. |
HIGH | Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) guard verifying permissions against UserIdentity.roles before invoking core mutations. |
- Rate Limiting: Sliding-window rate limiter per client IP / tenant (protects
/api/auth/loginand sensitive endpoints). - Security Response Headers:
X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN(Clickjacking prevention)X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff(MIME sniffing prevention)X-XSS-Protection: 1; mode=blockStrict-Transport-Security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains(HSTS)Content-Security-Policy: default-src 'self'; script-src 'self' 'unsafe-inline' https://unpkg.com; style-src 'self' 'unsafe-inline' https://fonts.googleapis.com; font-src 'self' https://fonts.gstatic.com; img-src 'self' data: https:;
- Deep Input Sanitization: Rejects control characters, null-byte injection (
%00), and Prototype Pollution vectors.
- Each tenant possesses an isolated cryptographic salt:
tenant_salt_${tenantId}. - AES-256-GCM cipher with random 128-bit IV and 128-bit authentication tag.
- Decryption across different tenant contexts fails unconditionally with cryptographic MAC validation error.
- Strict role checking (
superadmin,tenant_admin,editor,viewer,customer). - "Break-Glass" support access requires active, unexpired
SupportDelegationGrantauthorized by the tenant administrator.
The automated security test suite verifies defensive behavior against real-world attack vectors:
- Test 1: Zero-Knowledge Key Derivation & Cryptographic Tamper Resistance
- Validates that ciphertexts cannot be altered (bit-flipping attack prevention).
- Test 2: Cross-Tenant Cryptographic Isolation (IDOR Defeat)
- Validates that Tenant B cannot decrypt Tenant A's ciphertext.
- Test 3: Prototype Pollution Injection Rejection
- Validates that payloads containing
__proto__orconstructorare rejected with HTTP 400.
- Validates that payloads containing
- Test 4: Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) Sanitization in Block Registry
- Validates that
<script>alert('xss')</script>is encoded to<script>across all components.
- Validates that
- Test 5: JWT Token Tampering & Signature Verification
- Validates that altered token signatures fail validation.
- Test 6: Token Revocation Denylist
- Validates that logged-out or revoked tokens are rejected immediately.
- Test 7: Support Access Delegation "Break-Glass" Controls
- Validates that Superadmin cannot access tenant resources without an active grant, and access terminates upon revocation.
- Test 8: Rate Limiting & Brute-Force Throttling
- Validates that excessive authentication requests receive HTTP 429 Too Many Requests.
- Test 9: Security Response Headers Compliance
- Validates presence of
X-Frame-Options,X-Content-Type-Options,Content-Security-Policy.
- Validates presence of
- Test 10: Commerce Subsystem, Cart Validation & Order Cryptographic Linkage
- Verifies shopping cart data integrity, stock availability checking, discount promo validation (
BLACKFRIDAY20), and transaction state immutability.
- Verifies shopping cart data integrity, stock availability checking, discount promo validation (
- Test 12: REST API Interoperability & OpenAPI 3.1.0 Coverage
- Verifies all 30+ endpoints, status codes, request bodies, and Swagger UI integration.
- Test 13: Watchdog Sentinel, Anomaly Detection & Circuit Breaker Matrix
- Verifies real-time stack trace capture, failure velocity tracking, and automatic circuit breaker tripping.
- Test 14: Disaster Recovery (DR) & Service Outage Failover
